Job descriptionA strong understanding of diesel engine operation, components, and repair techniques is essential A strong understanding of trailer operation, components, and repair techniques is essential; including refrigeration units Proficiency in using various tools and equipment for repairs, including power tools, hand tools, and specialized machinery Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and interpreting test results to identify and troubleshoot problems. JOB FUNCTION :
The Lead Diesel Technician is a member of the management team, assisting in overseeing and performing fleet maintenance operations. The Lead Diesel Technician is responsible for coordinating and leading truck and trailer mechanics, while maintaining a safe, efficient, goal-oriented department. This position will report to the Mechanic Shop Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Maintain and continue to develop a high level of maintenance procedures to lessen fleet problems
- Oversee and coordinate the activities of all diesel and trailer mechanics across all shifts
- Conduct thorough inspections of trucks, trailers, and assigned equipment
- Use diagnostic tools to identify mechanical and electrical problems, then repair or replace malfunctioning parts
- Ensure timely completion of maintenance tasks
- Assist the Mechanic Shop Manager in planning and scheduling maintenance activities
- Train and educate mechanics on new equipment and techniques
- Assist the Mechanic Shop Manager in maintaining inventory and ordering parts as needed
- Bring any questions or concerns of mechanics to the Mechanic Shop Manager
- Assist in adhering to safety procedures and regulations
- Fill in for the Mechanic Shop Manager when needed
- Other duties as assigned
