Program Engineer, Armtec Defense Technologies
Armtec Defense Technologies is an operating unit of the TransDigm Group (NYSE : TDG). Armtec produces subcomponents for ordnance, decoy countermeasure flares, and radar countermeasure chaff in multiple locations. This position is based in Coachella, California, at Armtec's production facility for felted fiber nitrocellulose cartridge cases and pyrophoric payloads for training grenades.
Job Overview
The Program Engineer is a key member of the Engineering group, working on existing products / processes and new product development. The engineer is assigned to a Program area and works on the program team as a peer with Program, Operations, and Quality leadership. They are the main technical contact for their assigned program, ensuring that required engineering activities are identified, prioritized, and completed, and that maintenance / repair activities are adequately specified for quick and satisfactory upkeep of equipment and processes.
Primary Responsibilities
- Identify, define, and coordinate key technical efforts to support the program; leverage additional engineering support as needed.
- Regularly collect and communicate status of technical activities within the program team and to leadership as needed.
- Perform or guide troubleshooting and failure analysis on product, process, and equipment issues to expedite return to operation and prevent recurrence.
- Define new process performance requirements.
- Analyze production performance metrics to identify key parameters, improvements, and risk areas.
- Define maintenance schedules and develop operation and maintenance procedures to ensure proper operation of the production system.
- Review and audit production operation and maintenance procedures for adequacy.
- Develop and manage project / program plans and technology roadmaps.
- Collaborate with Program Management on new product, process, and equipment designs to ensure smooth transition into the program.
- Analyze product and process design concepts for form, fit, and function to meet customer needs and requirements.
- Lead transition of products into manufacturing and full-rate production to transfer knowledge to the production organization.
- Interface with internal and external customers on technical issues.
- Maintain the highest ethical standards and adhere to Armtec's ethics and business conduct policies.
Qualifications
Minimum 4-year degree in engineering or science (e.g., mechanical / chemical engineering, aerospace engineering, chemistry / materials science).5+ years of engineering experience in a production environment.5+ years of experience developing new products, preferably in the defense industry.In-depth knowledge of process engineering, lean methods, and statistical process control.In-depth knowledge of Product Development Processes and methodologies (Design for Six Sigma, DFM, DFA).Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to use statistical tools.Experience with product testing and verification methods, including design of experiments.Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.Dependable, responsible, detail-oriented with interpersonal effectiveness.Self-direction with the ability to prioritize and take initiative.Armtec Competencies
