About The Position

Job Title : Registered Nurse

Hours per Shift : 12 hours

Experience : 1 year of hospital experience preferred

License : Active Illinois RN license required

Certifications : BLS certification required; ACLS preferred for Charge RN position

Must-Have : Experience with titrating drips, specifically Heparin

Description :

The unit has 18 beds, with all private rooms except for one semi-private room.

The nurse-to-patient ratios are 4-5 : 1 during the day and 5-6 : 1 at night.

Common diagnoses include general medical patients with various conditions.

RNs are required to titrate Heparin drips.

24-hour Charge RN coverage is available, with the possibility of taking a patient assignment at times.

House supervisors are present 24 / 7.

There are two Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) per shift, maintaining a ratio of 9 : 1 when the unit is full.

Patients may have oxygen requirements up to 6L nasal cannula, with stable BiPAP / CPAP used at night or as needed.

Telemetry monitoring is done remotely, and RNs will primarily use Phillips equipment.

There is a unit clerk available 24 hours a day for support.

12-hour shifts are scheduled, with reports given at the beginning and end of each shift.

RNs work every other weekend and participate in holiday rotations as per policy.

Traveling RNs may float to other units as needed.

Staff are expected to provide their own scrubs, with no pediatric scrubs allowed.

Traveling RNs receive a unit-specific orientation typically consisting of one shift with a preceptor.

In-house resources include hospitalist / intensivist coverage, an inpatient phlebotomy team for blood draws, and a 24 / 7 pharmacy for medication preparation.
