TITLE : UPSTREET PSYCHOTHERAPIST (IMMIGRANT-FOCUSED)

UpStreet
UpStreet is a unique, barrier-free intervention for youth and young adults aged 12-22. UpStreet is an accessible, stigma-free program that allows youth to drop in whether in person at our physical location in the Squirrel Hill section of Pittsburgh, or online, via a chat feature on the UpStreetpgh.org website. The UpStreet therapists are a dynamic, committed team of compassionate and creative therapists who work together to improve the lives of youth and young adults in a destigmatizing, inclusive, and warm environment.
UpStreet is co-located with afterschool and career exploration programs also offered by JFCS. This creates a vibrant, welcoming community environment that meets teens and young adults where they are and brings them the resources they need to become the adults they want to be.
POSITION SUMMARY :
The psychotherapist will become part of the UpStreet therapeutic team. UpStreet therapists provide psychotherapy, brief support, and group work, as well as other interventions as needed. Services will be provided either virtually, in partner locations, or in-person, depending on client needs. The psychotherapist will focus their work on youth and young adults from immigrant communities, providing individual and group counseling. They will assist in the development of specialized training and staff development focused on the needs of immigrants, participate in case reviews, and provide brief intervention services both virtual and in person. The psychotherapist must be comfortable working with clients with limited English proficiency and working with interpreters will be a regular aspect of the job. A successful applicant should have experience in suicide assessment and prevention and other mental health interventions. Position will interact with all aspects of UpStreet services, including, but not limited to, the Youth Advisory Board, the text-based Peer Mentoring program and interacting with clients who drop in '' for brief interventions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Counseling :
Undertakes preteen, teen, adolescent and young adult counseling cases primarily from immigrant communities.
Conducts initial evaluations for all assigned referrals, as well as interpreting diagnostic assessments that assist in the formulation of an appropriate diagnosis.
Conducts all services in a culturally sensitive and strengths-based manner.
Provides a supportive and welcoming environment for clients and their families.
Facilitates open and topical support groups and group therapy in the office, schools, and community settings.
Provides brief support interventions and other short-term interventions for populations served.
Schedules and coordinates client referrals as warranted by individual client needs.
Training and Consultation :
Participates in the development of training seminars, workshops, and presentations to JFCS staff and other education, youth workers, and mental health professionals.
Supports the adults in our clients lives with information, resources, and coaching.
Provides ongoing and specialized consultation and skill development activities for service providers as requested.
Will attend and participate in weekly group consultation with the team, and individual supervision with Clinical Supervisor.
Administration
Provides written progress notes for all client interactions.
Provides documentation of treatment plans and treatment plan reviews, in accordance with JFCS policies.
Be available for office hours at the Youth Services physical location and help to organize and maintain the offices.
Conduct intakes and process referrals from immigrant-serving providers.
Participate in JFCS organizational opportunities and trainings.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Masters Degree in Social Work, Counseling or related field.
Preference given to candidates who are licensed by the Commonwealth of PA and eligible for insurance credentialing.
Experience in a clinical setting treating children, youth and families.
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally at all levels with co-workers, family members, supervisors, and other service providers.
Cultural fluency and humility are essential for providing trauma informed interventions for our diverse client base.
Fluency in a second language and / or lived experience as an immigrant is preferred.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings.
Available for on-call duties on weekends and evenings for virtual brief support services.
Physical Requirements :
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
