Overview of Position
Work performed under the direct supervision of a Custodian Engineer of Group 4 Building, Licensed Assistant of Group 3 Elementary Building, Licensed Assistant of small Middle Schools or Head Assistant in a High School. Performs routine custodial duties in a scheduled work area according to established procedures. This is an entry level custodial position; incumbents receive initial instruction for each operation but are expected to perform duties without continual instruction.
Essential Functions
- Sweeps, cleans and dusts classrooms, offices, halls, and other school spaces; cleans and services restrooms.
- Mops floors and applies floor finish; operates mechanical cleaners and polishers.
- Washes walls, windows, etc; prepares cleaning solutions as needed according to written or oral instructions.
- Gathers and disposes of trash and wastes.
- Lifts / moves various heavy objects; works from ladders and scaffolds of various heights.
- Operates floor scrubbers, buffers, power lawn mowers, sweepers, and vacuum pickup machines as needed in the performance of assigned duties.
- Provides maintenance repairs such as but not limited to light bulbs, shade cords, pencil sharpeners and limited glazing.
- Unlocks and locks up office and buildings.
- Prepares brief written memoranda for supervisors regarding building damage or problems observed during cleaning assignments.
- Starts heating stoves as assigned.
- Performs related duties as required.

Typical Qualifications
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS :
Assistant Custodians must provide their own transportation between and to school sites and job locations. Must be able to work split shifts.
