Highway Paint Equipment Operator
Under general supervision, performs specialized skilled work in pavement marking installation and maintenance. Work involves maintaining all pavement markings throughout the city as the primary function and performing maintenance on equipment. Work also involves prelining new pavement work. Employee must exercise some independent judgment in the performance of assigned tasks. Reports to the Paint Supervisor.

Essential job functions include :
- Drive long line paint truck in operation and inspect the installation of thermoplastic materials
- Preline for new pavement markings
- Trains in the use of various types of pavement marking equipment.
- Performs operational tests and inspections of facility systems and components.
- Inspects and repairs pavement marking equipment; performs maintenance; reports malfunctions to supervisor.
- Receives and / or reviews various records and reports including vehicle maintenance reports, preline drawings, and SDS forms.
- Prepares and / or processes various records and reports including activity reports and equipment checklists.
- Refers to equipment maintenance manual, MSDS forms, MUTCD, employee handbook, traffic marking plans, codes / laws / regulations, publications and reference texts, etc.
- Uses a variety of tools such as calibration tools, distance measuring equipment, hand and mechanic tools, mobile communications, etc. Uses a variety of supplies such as maintenance forms, traffic marking paint, reflective beads, replacement parts, etc.
- Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals including Paint Supervisor, citizens and motorists
- Responsible for traffic control; provides information to the public.
- Performs minor administrative tasks.
- Assists other divisions and departments.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Required qualifications include : Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by twenty-four to thirty-six months of experience in pavement marking operations; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must possess a valid Class B CDL drivers license. Must obtain Class A CDL in 120 days.
