Job description

The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN4) for the Monroe Correctional Complex located in Monroe, WA just outside of Seattle.

Under the direct or indirect supervision of the Registered Nurse, the Licensed Practical Nurse 4 supports the Department's mission to improve public safety by assisting in the implementation of the nursing process and delivering services to promote, foster healing, and support coping and adjustment to various health conditions.

Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses will receive shift differential in the amount of two dollars and fifty cents ($2.50) per hour for evening shift and night shift work. Employees may also qualify for one or both of these supplemental shift premiums in addition to the above.

A. One dollar ($1.00) per hour during any hours assigned to work from 11 : 00 p.m. until 7 : 00 a.m.

B. Three dollars ($3.00)per hour during any hours worked from Friday midnight to Sunday midnight.

  • Assist RN3 / IPN with monitoring and enforcing policy for infection Control according to policy 670.000, DOH Health Environment, & safety Standards, MRSA protocol, flu protocol, Policy 590.100, and Policy 890.600.
  • Participate in facility Infection Control meetings.
  • Participate in the statewide bi-weekly Infection Prevention Nurse (IPN Meetings)
  • Provide Communicable disease reporting to DOH per WAC 246-101 (-105, -110,-115, -120).
  • Monitor and enforce 12rotocols for : MRSA, Flu, Scabies / lice, C-diff, Norovirus and other Gastroenteritidies, Varicella Zoster, and HeQatitis A & B.
  • Monitor and enforce Blood borne Pathogen Protocols through collaboration with Occupational
  • Nurses, offering assistance with source person testing and post exposure management for offenders.
  • Provide outbreak assistance and information as needed .
  • Provide sexually transmitted infection (STll Case Management including education and data management and reporting.
  • Provide notification and education concerning extended family visits .
  • Provide information and education for Offender Immunization Program .
  • Track and manage data on Infection Control including analysis of trends over time and reporting to HQ monthly via the Surveillance Log and other state agencies as required.
  • Assist RN3 / IPN with managing Hepatitis C Program at the facility level to include monitoring adherence to protocols and use of appropriate documentation.
  • Assist with compliance of policy for Isolation Procedures (including signage), teach and educate staff, monitor and enforce compliance according to DOH Health, Environmental, & Safety Standards.
  • Assist the RN3 / IPN in monitoring and enforcing policies and procedures related to infection prevention and the DOH - Health, Environmental, & Safety Standards for hand washing and sanitation of facilities and supplies.
  • Use tools, techniques, and physical and cognitive skills and abilities to practice nursing safely and effectively in the correctional setting and within the scope of practice defined by state law and administrative code so that patient care provided is safe, effective, efficient, and clinically appropriate.
  • Delegate and assign tasks to other staff as appropriate.
  • Self-evaluate and practice professional nursing conduct at all times.
  • Provide effective communication and documentation.
  • Administer medication.
  • Provide competent patient care.
  • Actively participate in clinic / facility-wide Coordinated Quality Improvement Program (CQIP) projects and program.
  • All other tasks as assigned by the Registered Nurse 3.
  • Required Qualifications :

  • Initial and continuous unencumbered licensure in the State of Washington as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • OR-
  • An unencumbered Multistate License from a participating Compact Licensure State as outlined by the Nurse Licensure Compact and Department of Health with completion of Suicide Prevention, EDIR training, and MLS demographic survey.
  • AND-
  • Two years of experience working as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Training by the American Heart Association in Healthcare Provider CPR.
  • Proficient using computer-based programs to schedule, monitor and track patient information, perform data entry, and word processing, and communicate via email, as well as other programs that may be needed to complete assigned work.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience working as a nurse in an acute care setting or a correctional facility.
  • Certification as a Correctional Healthcare Professional.
  • Experience in Infection Prevention / Control including surveillance, monitoring and patient education

  • Salary is based on experience and is determined at the time a final offer of employment is made. The salary range listed in the job posting includes Steps A-M. Step M is a longevity step and is typically gained six years after being assigned to Step L in your permanent salary range.
