Job Title : Dispatch Operator
General Description Of Position : Dispatch emergency and non-emergency calls for police and fire. Answers the 9-1-1 system, enters call data and information into computer aided dispatch software, answers general phone calls from the public on all issues related to public service within the city. Handles request from bonding companies and private citizens on prisoner information and request from the public on issues related to public safety. Is the liaison between the public and the officers. Take all walk-in traffic, impound releases, and questions while performing any tasks emergency related. Must be able to type, multi-task, and do whatever job is asked of you at the time.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities :
Qualifications : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and / or ability required. Education and experience : Mental alertness and adaptability to office and field area work routines. Equivalent to four years high school or GED, with particular emphasis during high school in office skills, shop skills, or others, plus 7 to 11 months related experience and / or training. Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional Information : Must have a flexible schedule, non-consistent work hours. Must be able to multi-task. Understanding that pay does not meet the mental demand of the job. Employee must be able to carry a heavy emotional load at all times. Occasionally required to work beyond normal work hours or change work hours. Must be able to work alone and must self-initiate tasks daily. Will work with very little supervision. Needs good people skills. Must be able to take a leadership position when necessary.
