Position Summary
The Commissioning Manager is a Building Commissioning Professional (BCxP) responsible for leading all phases of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) commissioning, as well as building envelope validation, on complex commercial and institutional projects.
This role is both technical and managerial—the individual oversees a team of facility and commissioning specialists to ensure building systems perform as intended and comply with design, specification, and contractual requirements. The Commissioning Manager plays a critical role in the Facility Solutions business, bridging design, construction, and operations to deliver high-performing, energy-efficient, and LEED-compliant facilities.
Scope of Role
- Oversee commissioning activities across multiple large-scale building projects.
- Lead and mentor commissioning staff, ensuring technical accuracy and consistency of deliverables.
- Interface with owners, design teams, construction teams, and trade partners throughout project lifecycle.
- Review design documents and specifications to identify system performance criteria and testing requirements.
- Develop commissioning plans, system verification checklists, and functional test procedures.
- Coordinate with construction teams for equipment start-up, system testing, and issue resolution.
- Perform site observations and witness functional performance tests for HVAC, BAS, electrical, lighting, plumbing, fire / life safety, and security systems.
- Manage issue logs, verification documentation, and final commissioning reports.
- Ensure compliance with ASHRAE commissioning guidelines and LEED Enhanced Commissioning requirements.
- Identify and recommend system optimizations to improve long-term building performance.
- Support integration of building automation and energy management systems.
- Maintain communication with project stakeholders and document all testing outcomes, deviations, and resolutions.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related technical field) or equivalent combination of education and experience.6+ years of commissioning or equivalent technical experience in commercial / institutional construction.CxA certification (completed or in progress).ASHRAE BCxP or equivalent certification required.Strong working knowledge of HVAC, BAS, electrical power, lighting, plumbing, and life safety systems.Proficiency in ASHRAE commissioning procedures and documentation standards.Experience in project management and supervising technical teams.High proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Project, SharePoint, Teams, Word).Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.Must hold a valid driver's license and be willing to travel extensively.Preferred Qualifications
Commissioning experience on LEED-certified or energy-efficient facilities.Familiarity with building analytics, energy modeling, or performance measurement systems.Experience coordinating between design / engineering and operations teams.Background in complex environments such as healthcare, aviation, higher education, or mission-critical facilities.Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and resolve issues across design and field operations.Key Competencies

Classification : Heavy Work (up to 100 lbs occasionally, 50 lbs frequently, 20 lbs constantly).
Frequent walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, and reaching across construction and operational sites.
Regular exposure to construction environments including temperature fluctuations, wind, noise, and outdoor conditions.
Must be comfortable working on ladders, scaffolding, or elevated areas.
Requires ability to read technical drawings, take field measurements, and operate computers / tablets for data entry and documentation.
