Test Plot Assistant Supervisor [Irrigation Technician]

Butier Test Plot se encuentra en Watsonville, California, y realiza mas de 20 ensayos diferentes. Los ensayos son de cuatro programas de mejoramiento diferentes (frambuesas, moras y arandanos). El area del rancho experimental es de 60 acres, de los cuales 50 son cultivables y 40 acres de ellos estan plantados actualmente. Butier Ranch lleva a cabo las tareas mas importantes de los ensayos, como las operaciones previas a la siembra, la siembra y la posplantacion, las operaciones de fertirrigacion y la gestion de los programas de alimentacion, el control de plagas y enfermedades, las visitas y el liderazgo en el rancho, la contratacion, supervision y capacitacion de nuevos trabajadores estacionales, la recopilacion de datos de cosecha, etc.

• OBJETIVO DEL PUESTO / AREA DE RESULTADOS CLAVE

El objetivo principal del puesto es ser la persona a cargo de las necesidades hidricas de las plantas en el rancho y del buen funcionamiento del sistema de riego, asi como brindar apoyo al Technical Grower.

Ademas, esta es una posicion clave y estructural para nosotros y tendremos que supervisar a otros colegas alrededor de estas areas arriba en la parcela de prueba, en particular, el 'Asistente de Riego'.

Este puesto tambien brinda orientacion sobre varias tareas a personal mas inexperto y de la agencia.

• DEBERES Y RESPONSABILIDADES

Responsable del funcionamiento correcto y de todo el sistema de riego PRIVA y Arduino.

Mantenimiento de sondas de pH, sensores de EC y solenoides de valvulas conectados a PRIVA y Arduino

Mantenimiento de todos los filtros del tanque de fertilizante y filtros del sistema de riego.

Responsable de mantener el biorreactor en buen funcionamiento.

Responsable de las necesidades hidricas de las plantas en el rancho

Supervisar las actividades del 'Asistente de Riego'.

Verificacion de los niveles del tanque de fertilizante y preparacion de soluciones de fertilizacion.

Asegurarse de que los tanques de reserva de agua esten tratados con el pH adecuado para el sustrato.

Configuracion de programas de alimentacion en la aplicacion del sistema de riego.

Mantenimiento de inventario de productos fertilizantes.

Hacer pedidos de fertilizantes a los proveedores.

Apoyo durante la instalacion de nuevos sistemas de riego.

Mantenimiento de las herramientas y aparatos de riego.

Dar apoyo al Technical Grower para tomar mejores decisiones sobre las correcciones de deficiencias de nutrientes.

Collectar lecturas de lisimetros y ajustes en programacion de riego para monitorear EC y pH.

Liderar un equipo de 5 tecnicos de riego.

Cumplimiento de la seguridad de la tripulacion tecnica y reporte adecuado de incidentes.

Reuniones mensuales de seguridad con la tripulacion.

Uno de los principales objetivos de este puesto es suministrar programas de alimentacion precisos a cada cultivo bajo la supervision del Technical Grower. Este objetivo incluye otras tareas como supervisar la configuracion de los programas de riego, apoyar la instalacion de nuevos sistemas de riego o algunas actualizaciones en el sistema de riego real. Si es necesario, recolectar muestras del sustrato, agua y hojas.

• . El puesto brindara apoyo al Technical Grower durante los dias festivos o vacaciones con capacidad para operar el sistema.

Esta posicion tiene la capacidad de realizar los cambios necesarios en los tiempos de riego en funcion de las condiciones climaticas, el pH actual, el EC, el estado de la planta, etc.,- acciones que requieren no solo conocimientos tecnicos, sino tambien tomar muestras de sustrato y agua una o dos veces al dia.

• GENERAL DESCRIPTION DEPARTMENT

Butier Test Plot is located in Watsonville, California and runs more than 20 different trials. Trials are from four different breeding programs (raspberries, blackberries and blueberries). The Test Plot area is 60 acres, from which 50 are cultivable and 40 acres of them are currently planted. The Butier Test Plot carries out the most important tasks of the trials such as pre-planting, planting and post-planting operations, fertigation operations and feeding programs management, pest and disease control, test plot tours and leadership, new seasonal workers hiring, supervising and training, harvest- data collection, etc.

• GOAL OF THE POSITION / KEY RESULTS AREA

The main goal of the position is to be the person in charge of the hydric necessities of the plants at the test plot and the proper functioning of the irrigation system as well as provide support to the Technical Grower.

In addition, this is a key and structural position for us and will need to supervise other colleagues around these areas above at the Test plot, in particular, the Irrigation Assistant.

This position also brings guidance on several tasks to more unexperienced and agency personal.

• DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible of the correct functioning and of the entire PRIVA and Arduino irrigation system.

Maintainance of pH probes, EC sensors, and valve solenoids tied to PRIVA and Arduino

Maintenance of all fertilizer tank filters and irrigation system filters.

Responsible for maintaining Bioreactor in full functioning order.

Responsible of the hydric necesities of the plants at the test plot

Supervise the Irrigation Assistant activities.

Checking fertilizer tank levels and preparation of fertilization solutions.

Making sure water reserve tanks are treated to the adequate pH for substrate.

Feeding programs setup in the irrigation system application.

Maintenance of an inventory of fertilizer products.

Placing orders of fertilizers with vendors.

Support during the installation of new irrigation systems.

Maintenance of the irrigations tools and devices.

Giving support to the Technical Grower to make better decisions about nutrient deficiency corrections.

Collection of lysimeter readings and adjustments in : irrigation scheduling, EC and pH.

Leading a irrigation team of 5 technicians.

Safety compliance of technician crew and proper reporting of incidents.

Monthly safety meetings with crew.

One of the main goals for this position is to supply accurate feedings programs to every crop under the Technical Grower supervision. This goal includes other tasks like overseeing the irrigation programs setup, support the installation of new irrigation systems or some updates in the actual irrigation system. if necessary, collecting samples from substrate, water, and leaves.

• . The position will provide support to the Technical Grower during holidays or vacation with full capability of operating the system.

This position has the capacity of making necessary changes in the irrigation times depending on weather condition, current pH, EC, plant stage etc. - those action requires not only technical knowledge but also taking samples from substrate and water once or twice per day.
