Job descriptionDoctorate in Music Education ( ABD considered) or comparable terminal degree. Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience in K-12 instrumental music. Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. Record of scholarship that includes an established or emerging record of publications and / or presentations at state / regional / national conferences. Commitment to empowering diverse learners for economic and social mobility. Familiarity with current pedagogy, trends, and technologies in music education. Experience supervising student teachers or coordinating field experiences. Collegiate-level teaching experience Record of scholarly activity in music education. A letter of application outlining the candidate's qualifications for this position, including their primary and secondary area(s) of expertise. Purpose of Position
The School of the Arts at Northern Kentucky University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track, on-campus position in Instrumental Music Education at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2026. We seek a dynamic and collaborative educator committed to excellence in teaching, service, and scholarship.
Primary Responsibilities
Teach undergraduate courses in music education and instrumental music education, which may include methods, conducting, pedagogy, supervision of student teachers, and other courses in the candidate's area of expertise.
Teach undergraduate courses in a secondary area of expertise, including : applied lessons, music history, music theory, ensemble conducting, or aural skills
Coordinate the instrumental music education program and collaborate with faculty across performance and education areas.
Engage in recruitment and retention efforts for the music education program.
Demonstrate a trajectory of active research, scholarship, and / or creative activity.
Participate in program, college, and university service.
- Advise undergraduate students and contribute to curriculum development.
