Job descriptionPrepare non-sterile medications : select, count, compound, package, label, and deliver per guidelines Operate and maintain automated dispensing machines; resolve discrepancies and manage inventory Accurately fill stock orders, emergency carts, and medication boxes Transport medications efficiently (e.g., tubing, cart delivery, IV runs, STAT orders) Maintain inventory : rotate stock, remove expired items, reorder supplies, and ensure safe storage Manage controlled substances inventory (CII-CV) and report discrepancies promptly Support workflow optimization and demonstrate initiative in daily operations Use pharmacy technology and automation systems; troubleshoot and report issues Access and update patient records, process Rx messages, and print labels Provide courteous and professional communication with staff and patients Assist in onboarding and training of new team members Potential exposure to hazardous or toxic substances Must adhere to safety protocols and departmental policies Physical demands may include standing, lifting, and repetitive tasks Climbing - Rarely Concentrating - Consistently Continuous Learning - Consistently Hearing : Conversation - Consistently Interpersonal Communication - Consistently Kneeling - Rarely Lifting Lifting 50+ Lbs. - Rarely Lifting 11-50 Lbs. - Occasionally Pulling - Rarely Pushing - Frequently Reaching - Consistently Reading - Consistently Sitting - Rarely Standing - Consistently Stooping - Frequently Thinking / Reasoning - Consistently Use of Hands - Consistently Color Vision - Consistently Walking - Frequently Welcome everyone by making eye contact, greeting with a smile, and saying "hello" Acknowledge when patients / guests are lost and escort them to their destination or find someone who can assist Refrain from using cell phones for personal reasons in public spaces or patient care areas Recognize and take personal responsibility to address and recover from service breakdowns when a customer's expectations have not been met Offer patients and guests priority when waiting (lines, elevators) Work on improving quality, safety, and service Respect cultural and spiritual differences and honor individual preferences. Job Requirements
- Minimum of High School Diploma or GED is required
- Active Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credential is required. Accepted certifications : PTCB OR ExCPT (National Healthcareer Association)
- Active registration with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy as a Certified Pharmacy Technician is required
Job Overview
A hospital Pharmacy Technician I is a healthcare professional who plays an integral role in the pharmacy operations. Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, the pharmacy technician assists the pharmacist in the distribution of medications to patients in the hospital (inpatient and outpatient units, emergency room, and operating room). The distribution of medications, includes but is not limited to, selecting, counting, compounding, packing, labeling, and delivering medications to the units. Employees must be proficient in accessing and viewing the electronic health record and utilizing pharmacy automated systems. Employees will work in multiple areas of the pharmacy to maintain competency and broaden skills for all areas of the job scope.
