About The Position

Job Title : Surgical Technician

Profession : Technician

Hours per Shift : 8 or 10 hours per shift

Experience : Minimum years of experience preferred in Operating Room and Surgical Technologist roles

License : Certified Surgical Technologist

Certifications : BLS Certification

Must-Have : Cardiothoracic experience (CABG, Valve replacements, VATS, Robotic chest procedures)

Description :

Under general direction, observes and practices sterile technique.

Maintains asepsis and anticipates and assists the surgeon as needed.

Actively participates in patient care and safety.

Utilizes OR supplies conservatively and operates as a team member of the OR staff.

Follows Infection Control policies and procedures.

Demonstrates expertise in surgical scrub technique.

Adheres to principles of sterile technique preoperatively and intra-operatively.

Assists the surgeon when needed with gowning, gloving, draping, and passing of instruments and related items during procedures.

Anticipates the surgeon's need for instruments, sutures, and equipment.

Maintains an organized operative field by keeping instruments clean and in their proper place.

Keeps an accurate count of sponges, tape, needles, dissectors, and instruments.

Prepares for cases by assembling supplies and equipment according to preference cards.

Identifies conflicts or problems and cares appropriately for instruments and supplies after each case.

Provides a safe surgical environment for patients by identifying potential hazards.

Assists the circulating nurse in preoperative checks of equipment.

Displays knowledge of potential hazards in the Operating Room.

Utilizes experienced OR staff as a resource and acts as a resource for new OR personnel.

Assists in suturing, retracting, and suctioning under the direction of the surgeon.

Handles and identifies specimens per policy.

Expedites the effective and efficient turnover of the OR between cases.

Takes rotating call duty.

Performs additional responsibilities as requested.

Call requirements may include up to 3 shifts of call per week, ranging from 8 to 16 hours.

One working weekend per 4 weeks, with a call shift following the shift of work.
