What Will You Do

The Hot Section Engineering (HSE) Mechanical Design team is looking for a goal-oriented, detail-focused Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to support the F135 Combustor & Diffuser Case Component Integrated Product Team (CIPT).  In this role, the candidate will be required to work onsite.

The senior mechanical designer will work directly with the other disciplines of the Integrated Product Team (IPT), including project, structures, aero-thermal, and product definition, to design, analyze and support F135 Combustor & Diffuser Case hardware. The senior mechanical designer will also interface with other HSE IPTs and P&W groups to ensure design solutions meet system level requirements and field engines need. Key Responsibilities :

• Lead the resolution of mechanical engineering problems of difficult and complex scope, seeking a balanced system solution, and ensuring engineering excellence.
• Establish and maintain trust with internal and external customers by executing tasks with robust technical solutions within program schedule milestones.
• Review and approval of product definition data (prints and models).
• Present and communicate results to customers and program management.
• Analysis and disposition of non-conformances for new and fielded parts.
• Develop serviceable limits for engine part wear and defects.
• Design lead for investigation of military engine field incidents reported by customers leading to root cause and corrective action.
• Lead or support producibility improvement investigations with manufacturing vendors.
• Assist in creating safety risk analysis and developing risk mitigation plans.
• Apply sophisticated solid modeling and analysis tools in a highly proficient manner.
• Guide and mentor entry level engineers.
• Utilize standard work and CORE tools to continuously improve the design process.
• Up to 10% of travel.

Qualifications You Must Have

Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)

5 years of engineering experience, 3 years with an advanced degree

Qualifications We Prefer

Understanding of hardware, blueprints, dimensions & tolerances, and manufacturing methods.

Experience with GD&T ASME Y14.5M 1994 or 2018

Gas Turbine Combustor and / or Diffuser Case design experience

Proficiency in Teamcenter, Siemens NX, ANSYS and Workbench

Experience with Model-Based Design, Manufacture and Inspection (MB-DMI)

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail and deadlines

Understanding of Agile project management principles and experience working within an agile framework

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a consistent record of collaboration and initiative

Familiarity with engineering standard work, Class I and II EC process

Experience with fault tree investigations

Experience with SAP

Experience with MS Office products

Hot Section Engineering (HSE)

Hot Section Engineering is responsible for the design, development, technology maturation and in service support of all diffuser cases, combustors, turbines (vanes, blades, rotors and cases), augmenters (military), nozzles and associated fuel systems for all military, commercial and industrial engine models and radial auxiliary power units.

Technical disciplines in HSE include Project Engineering, Mechanical Design, Structural Analysis, Durability and Product Definition.

What is my role type?

Onsite : Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.

Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee’s personal responsibility.

The salary range for this role is 82,000 USD - 164,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education / training, and key skills.
