Office Assistant II
The Department of Public Safety, Division of Statewide Services, is seeking an Office Assistant II to join the Permits and Licensing Unit. This entry-level, support-based role provides an excellent opportunity to build valuable skills in applying criminal justice information policies, procedures, and precedentsparticularly in administrative and customer service settings. Working under the guidance of the Records and Licensing Supervisor to :
Permit and Eligibility Processing
Receive, review, and process applications for various permit programs (ACHP, SGL, CPS); verify applicant eligibility through criminal history checks, manage fingerprint submissions, and issue permits.
Administrative Support and File Management
Respond to public and agency inquiries, manage correspondence and official records, reconcile payments, maintain filing systems, and support compliance efforts including audits and documentation tracking.
Cross-Unit Support
Provide backup assistance to other Criminal Records Bureau units by performing data entry, record updates, document scanning, and other clerical support as needed.
The Applicant Records and Licensing Unit plays a vital role within the Division of Statewide Services and the Department of Public Safety, supporting the department's mission to ensure public safety and enforce fish and wildlife laws. This team's primary objective is to provide timely, accurate information and assistance to colleagues, partner agencies, and the public.

This position is based at the Department of Public Safety's Headquarters building, located at 5700 East Tudor Road in Anchorage, with the stunning Chugach Mountains as its backdrop. The office environment promotes collaboration, with individual workstations in an open area and shared stations at the front desk, where team members engage directly with the public.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or the equivalent. AND One year of experience that includes clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs. Substitution : Education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience; 150 hours of vocation education equal one month of experience).
