Job description

Mercy Health is actively seeking an exceptional Board-Certified Colorectal Surgeon to join our esteemed General Surgery Practice, focusing on building a new colorectal subspecialty service line within the Toledo market. This is an extraordinary opportunity to be a pivotal part of a growing service, shaping its future while providing high-quality, compassionate care to patients in the community. At Mercy Health, our mission is to extend the compassionate ministry of Jesus by improving the health and well-being of our communities and bringing good help to those in need, especially the poor, vulnerable, and underserved.

As a Fellowship-Trained Colorectal Surgeon, preferably Board-Certified in Colon and Rectal Surgery, you will have the unique opportunity to build and lead a colorectal practice with strong collaborative ties to oncology and other surgical services. Why Mercy Health?

  • Collaborative Environment : Join a practice that emphasizes teamwork and a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care. Work closely with oncology, general surgery, and other surgical specialties to provide the best patient outcomes.
  • Teaching Opportunities : As part of our General Surgery Residency Program, you’ll have the privilege to teach and mentor the next generation of surgeons, sharing your knowledge and experience with future leaders in the field.
  • Benefit from great support from all specialties, as well as a full range of ancillary services at our state-of-the-art facilities.
  • Leadership Role : Play a key role in the development and expansion of the colorectal surgery service line, with the opportunity to influence the direction and growth of this important subspecialty.
  • Enjoy a Monday-Friday schedule, with the opportunity to focus on initial consultations, surgical planning, surgery, follow-up visits, and the interpretation of results. You'll coordinate follow-up care with oncology and other services based on patient needs.

Provide comprehensive care to colorectal patients, including initial consultations, the development of surgical plans, surgery, and follow-up visits.

  • Work collaboratively with a highly skilled team of specialists, including oncology, general surgery, and other surgical services, ensuring the best possible patient care.
  • Teach and mentor residents in the General Surgery Residency Program, contributing to the academic and clinical growth of the next generation of surgeons.
  • Ensure continuity of care by coordinating follow-up care and collaborating with oncology and other services to meet the evolving needs of patients.
  • Board-Certified General Surgeon with Fellowship training in Colorectal Surgery.
  • Board Certification in Colon and Rectal Surgery is preferred.
  • Strong passion for providing comprehensive care and building a subspecialty service.
  • Sports enthusiasts will love the chance to cheer on the Toledo Mud Hens, a Triple-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, or catch an exciting ECHL hockey game. Not to mention, Fifth Third Field, the Mud Hens’ stadium, is recognized as one of the top minor league baseball venues in the country.
  • Outdoor lovers will appreciate the many opportunities for recreation, especially with the metro parks that surround the city. Toledo Metroparks provides an expansive network of green spaces, hiking trails, and waterfront parks, including the scenic Wildwood Preserve Metropark and the Oak Openings Preserve, perfect for outdoor activities. The Maumee River and Lake Erie offer residents the chance to enjoy waterfront living in charming neighborhoods that boast easy access to boating, fishing, and breathtaking views.

Toledo is also a city that caters to families, with top-rated schools and affordable housing options. The region is home to 33 colleges and universities within a 60-mile radius, including a respected medical college in the metro area. Additionally, with major cities like Ann Arbor, Chicago, Cleveland, Columbus, and Detroit just a short drive away, Toledo offers easy access to cultural, professional, and recreational activities in larger metropolitan hubs.
