Base pay range
$150,000.00 / yr - $220,000.00 / yr
Job Title : Government Contracting (GovCon) Accounting Manager / Controller
Location : Crystal City, VA (Hybrid – minimum 3 days in office per week)
Compensation : $150,000 to over $200,000 base salary + 10% bonus (equity potential based on experience)
Overview
We are seeking a GovCon Accounting Manager / Controller to lead core accounting operations and drive financial process improvements within a fast-growing government contracting organization.
This position is ideal for a hands-on accounting leader who thrives in a collaborative environment, values culture and curiosity, and can bring both technical expertise and people-first leadership to a scaling organization.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Operations
- Oversee all aspects of general ledger accounting, journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close.
- Manage and improve the close process (currently 15 days, goal to reach 5 days).
- Record and ensure accuracy of all expense transactions, including :
- Expense reports
- Payroll and related entries
- Revenue transactions
- Maintain compliance with government cost principles, including allowable / unallowable costs, fringe calculations, and indirect rates.
- Lead EAC and commercial revenue recognition activities and ensure accurate monthly reporting.
- Constantly analyze and streamline the close process for efficiency and accuracy.
- Deliver and review month-end financials (Income Statement, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow) for MTD, QTD, YTD, and Y / Y periods in an organized Excel package.
- Support payroll accuracy and ensure timely filing of all state and local tax obligations.
- Assist with investor and board reporting, collaborating with the SVP of Finance & Accounting and FP&A Manager on monthly reporting packages.
- Provide pricing and cost support for government proposals (without leading pricing).
- Participate in special projects and other accounting-related initiatives as needed.

Deep understanding of accounting rules specific to government contractingHands-on experience with :QuickBooks (current system)RampRevRec and Estimate-to-Complete (ETC) experience; ASC 606 knowledge helpful but not required.Qualifications
Proven experience as a Controller or Accounting Manager within a GovCon organization.Strong understanding of government cost accounting standards , compliance, and indirect rate structures.Hands-on with GL accounting , month-end close, and financial statement preparation.Excellent analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.Ability to thrive in a growing, fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and compliance.Seniority Level
