Job Description : Network Engineer (Managed Services - Education)

Position Overview : As a Network Engineer for Managed Services, you will play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and maintaining a robust and secure network infrastructure to support the educational and administrative needs of the district. You will be responsible for ensuring the network's reliability, performance, and security. Providing technical support to end-users and IT staff and continuously improving the network's efficiency and functionality.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Network Infrastructure Management :
  • Design, configure, and deploy network infrastructure components, including routers, switches, firewalls, access points, and network security appliances.
  • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot connectivity issues promptly to maintain optimal network operation.
  • Plan and execute network upgrades, expansions, and migrations as required to accommodate the district's growing needs.
  • Security and Data Protection :
  • Implement and maintain network security measures to safeguard sensitive data, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and best practices.
  • Conduct regular security audits, vulnerability assessments, and penetration testing to identify and address potential threats and weaknesses.
  • Collaborate with your IT teams to develop and enforce network security policies and procedures.
  • Network Administration :
  • Create and manage user accounts, permissions, and access levels for the network resources.
  • Monitor network utilization and bandwidth consumption to optimize network performance and prevent bottlenecks.
  • Maintain network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and standard operating procedures.
  • Network Support and Troubleshooting :
  • Provide technical support to end-users, addressing network-related issues and inquiries promptly and professionally.
  • Work with school staff and IT teams to troubleshoot and resolve network-related problems.
  • Participate in after-hours support and emergency response when necessary.
  • Network Monitoring and Optimization :
  • Utilize network monitoring tools to proactively identify performance bottlenecks and potential issues.
  • Recommend and implement optimizations to enhance network performance and efficiency.
  • Analyze network traffic patterns to make informed decisions on capacity planning and network resource allocation.
  • Network Projects and Upgrades :
  • Collaborate with IT leadership to plan and execute network-related projects, such as network upgrades, expansions, and system integrations.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies to propose innovative solutions for network enhancements.
  • Perform any and all other duties assigned in this job description and outside of this job description within reason of the position.
  • Oversee IT Support Specialists and other professionals to provide guidance.

Qualifications and Requirements :

  • Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field and 2+ years of relevant network engineering experience or
  • 4+ years of equivalent professional experience in a network engineering role preferred

  • Proven experience in network design, implementation, and administration.
  • Strong knowledge of networking protocols, topologies, and technologies (e.g., TCP / IP, VLANs, OSPF, BGP, WLAN, VPN).
  • Experience with network security technologies and best practices (firewalls, intrusion detection / prevention systems, access controls).
  • Familiarity with network monitoring tools and performance optimization techniques.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve network-related issues effectively.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Relevant certifications, such as CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent, are desirable.
  • Must possess valid driver's license and the ability to travel to job sites reliably.
  • Working Conditions : The position of Network Engineer - Education typically operates in a school district's central office, IT department, or remotely. Occasional travel between school sites within the district may be required. The role may involve on-call duties for after-hours support and emergency response.

    IT Network Engineer - Education will primarily work within school district facilities, providing support to students, teachers, and staff. The role may involve the lifting and moving of technology equipment up to 50-75lbs. Additional physical demands include sitting, standing, working from a ladder or lift, carrying, pushing, and / or some pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and / or crawling; significant finger dexterity. The job may require flexible working hours to accommodate after-school or event-related support needs. Occasional travel between school sites within the district may be required.
