Assist corporate and site engineers in preparing detailed mine plans, layouts, design drawings and permit applications for active and proposed operations.
Maintain centralized files of permit applications, maps, engineering drawings, and technical documentation for all operations.
Support engineering teams in analyzing mine progress and projections to provide consistency with permitting activities.
Permitting & Regulatory Support
Prepare maps, exhibits, and technical drawings for state and federal permit applications, renewals, and revisions.
Work closely with the Environmental and Permitting Departments to ensure permit drawings meet regulatory standards (WVDEP, KY DNR, OSMRE, MSHA).
Track and organize permit boundaries, acreage totals, and affected areas using GIS and CAD-based mapping tools.
Verify permit consistency with operational mine plans and assist in resolving discrepancies.
Support the preparation of responses to regulatory inquiries or inspection requests with accurate engineering documentation.
Cross-Functional Coordination
Collaborate with mine-site engineers, surveyors, and environmental staff to ensure consistent data collection and map updates.
Support Legal, Land, and Environmental departments by producing technical exhibits for lease agreements, boundary verifications, and reclamation plans.
Assist corporate management in technical presentations, reports, and internal audits.
Serve as a resource for troubleshooting technical CAD or mapping issues across the company.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
Maintain all mapping and engineering documentation in accordance with MSHA, OSMRE, and state regulations.
Participate in internal audits and quality reviews of engineering and permit maps.
Ensure timely updates of operational changes to prevent discrepancies in regulatory filings.
Handle confidential property and operational data in a professional and secure manner.
Qualifications
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field; equivalent work experience in mining engineering, mapping, or permitting will be accepted in lieu of a degree.
3–7 years of experience in engineering, mapping, or permitting support within the mining industry.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and GIS platforms; experience with mine planning or permitting software preferred.
Strong understanding of mining permitting processes (WVDEP, KY DNR, OSMRE, MSHA).
Working knowledge of both surface and underground mining operations.
Excellent organization and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities across sites.
High attention to detail, with demonstrated accuracy in technical drawings and data management.
