Security Officer
The Security Officer position is responsible for the day to day activities of ensuring a safe and secure Childrens campus. The Security Officer will maintain a safe environment through patrol of the hospital, grounds and outlying buildings. He / She will respond to all calls both emergency and non-emergency as they occur or in order of importance. The Security Officers core role is to promote a safe environment for patients, visitors and hospital employees.
- Must possess a valid drivers license (must meet minimum criteria of Childrens Minnesota Fleet Safety Management policy).
- Must be able to successfully pass background checks of the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) and Department of Human Services (DHS).
- Must be able to prepare verbal and written reports.
- Good verbal, writing and computer skills required.
- Must complete and pass use of force training within 30 days of hire.
- Must complete and pass Basic Life Support (BLS) and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training within 90 days of hire.
- Must be able to wear respiratory protection (N-95 respirator, full face respirator and PAPR), be fit tested and able to pass respirator physical.
Education :
High school diploma or equivalent required.Bachelors or Associates Degree in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, Business, Psychology or Sociology preferred.Experience :
Prior experience responding and intervening in emergency situations such as crisis de-escalation, intervention, detainment of suspects, reporting and investigating incidents, and enforcing organizational policy preferred.Prior Law Enforcement or security experience preferred.Emergency Operations Center experience preferred.Healthcare knowledge / experience preferred.License / Certification Preferences :
POST skills completed, International Association of Hospital Safety and Security (Basic), First Responder, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or OSHA first responder certifications preferred.Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Certified Forensic Interviewer (CFI), Physical Security Professional (PSP), Professional Certified Investigator (PCI), a plus.Knowledge / Skills / Abilities :
Excellent verbal and written communication skills a must.Ability to work independently and as a team.Ability to communicate effectively with others both orally and in writing.Ability to retain knowledge, information, and directions on an ongoing basis and communicate effectively with others.Ability to comprehend numerous policies, procedures, concepts and to be able to make decisions using discretion and interpretive judgment based on general and specific policies.Ability to maintain accurate records.Must be customer service oriented.Knowledge of verbal and physical de-escalation, use of force continuum and arrest laws preferred.Ability to walk and climb stairs.Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time.Ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions.Ability to see and hear accurately in both day and nighttime conditions.Skill in operating portable radio devices.Ability to detect irregularities, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards and emergency situations.Effectively contacts and interacts with emergency responders, such as police, fire, and / or ambulance personnel as required.Ability to restrain or subdue an individual.Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
