Course / Program Description
What makes human beings flourish? In this course, we will examine, discuss, and apply theories and research within the field of positive psychology. Lectures, readings, papers and in-class exercises are based on the scientific discoveries, philosophical questions, historical perspectives, and practices of well-being. Topics include : biological and physiological determinants of happiness, how happiness is measured, roles of human neuroanatomical structures in well-being, human character strengths and virtues, positive emotions, meaning and engagement, relationships, accomplishment, resilience, pleasure vs. long-term happiness, bi-directional relationship between physical health and positive affect, roles of evolution and motivation in happiness, and whether or not the pursuit of happiness is a practical endeavor and moral obligation.
Job Description
The Department of Health Sciences and Sciences at UCLA Extension offers a wide variety of certificate programs and courses including transfer-credit (XL), post-baccalaureate credit-bearing (400-level), continuing education (CEU) credit, and non-credit-bearing general interest courses. UCLA Extension courses and certificate programs offer students the opportunity to learn from highly qualified practitioners who hold advanced degrees, are passionate about teaching and impart knowledge within their field of expertise. Applications to teach are accepted throughout the year in order to fill immediate program needs and to increase the depth of the instructor pool.
A current opening is available for an instructor to teach in the discipline of Psychology. This course will be offered in the online learning format using the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
