Summary :
The Cardiac Catheterization Technologist II is responsible for delivering high quality patient care through efficient, knowledgeable, and safe performance in assisting physicians with Cardiac Catheterization and other procedures that he / she has received training i.e. electrophysiology, vascular.
These duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily basis; other tasks may be assigned.
- Assist the physician as requested and directed in the performance of any cardiac catheterization, invasive diagnostic or interventional procedure
- Observe and attend to the needs of each patient while in the care of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory
- Accurately record, note, and file as necessary
- Provide explanation and instruction to any medical personnel observing a procedure in order to maintain sterility of necessary areas, safety of patients, and safety of
personnel.
Assist, as directed by a physician, during any emergency resuscitation procedureCheck the function of and prepare equipment for any necessary patient procedures; complete checklistsAssist the director in maintaining proper stock of supplies by informing of low levels or defective materialsAssist in preparing patient for procedure and do any pre-cath teaching deemed necessary according to patient needsAssist in providing post-cath care to include post-cath teachings and accompanying the patient back to their roomPrepare instrument tables by : checking all equipment; checking fluids, medications dosage, concentration, and expiration dates; and ensuring instruments are the proper sizeBe proficient in percutaneous diagnostic and interventional proceduresBe proficient in functioning as a scrub assistant, monitor, and circulatorMaintain equipment in ready conditionProcess chargesMaintain and distribute patient digital records within HIPPA guidelinesMaintain active ACLS and BLS certificationProvides copies of all licenses, registries, and certifications to the Cardiovascular Clinical SupervisorAssists the physician as requested and directed in the performance of any cardiac catheterization procedureObserves and attends to the needs of each patient while in the care of invasive cardiac services i.e. cath labs, electrophysiology lab or holding areaPrepares the patient for the procedure, explains the procedure and assures patient cooperation during testingProvides pre and post-cath education as neededMaintains a clean and orderly environment throughout the cardiac invasive lab.Maintain established department policies, procedures, and objectives regarding quality assurance, safety, and environmental and infection controlAccurately completes patient procedure documentation, notes and files accordinglyChecks equipment for safe use prior any patient procedureAssists team in maintaining proper supply stock and informs technical leads or clinical supervisor of low or out-of-date stockMay be requested to conduct in-services and meetingsAttend required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-servicesMust be available to take monthly after-hours, weekend and / or holiday call as required by the departmentDemonstrate a commitment to flexible work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient careAccepts assignment as a task nurse within the service line if neededExemplifies excellent customer relations towards patients, visitors, physicians and co-workers. Minimum Required Education : Associates degree or higher, completion of an accredited cardiovascular technology program towards obtaining a Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist registry
Experience : 2+ years Cath Lab experience is required. Employee should be competent in position within 90-days of employment.
Applicant must be retain a registry as a RCIS, RCVT, RCES, or registry eligible. ACLS and BLS certification required
