Job Title : Post Office Clerk I

Salary Range : $26.00 / hr - $26.00 / hr

Schedule : Full Time, Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.

General Summary : This position’s responsibilities are to provide various postal services to customers at a post office counter, including selling stamps, money orders, packaging supplies, weighing packages, accepting mail for delivery, and assisting customers with inquiries regarding mailing procedures, all while ensuring accurate addressing and postage calculation.

Reporting Relationships : This position reports to Post Office Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Accept Mail : Every morning, accept mail from the Kirkland Post Office for the property. Log all packages received in log for back-up for tenants.
  • Customer service : Interacting with customers face-to-face, addressing questions about postal services, and resolving any concerns.
  • Mail processing : Receiving incoming mail, sorting mail by tenants and preparing outgoing mail for dispatch.
  • Mail Delivery : Deliver mail to each tenant’s office.
  • Product sales : Selling stamps, envelopes, boxes, money orders, and other postal products. Update lobby signs as needed.
  • Package handling : Weighing packages, calculating postage, and accepting packages for shipping.
  • Address verification : Ensuring mail is correctly addressed with accurate zip codes.
  • Cash handling : Accurately handling cash transactions for postage and other services. Prepare deposit form for Post Office Manager to review and complete.
  • Operating postal equipment : Using automated mail sorting machines and other postal technology.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy with addresses and postage calculations
  • Basic math skills to calculate postage
  • Ability to lift and handle packages of varying weight
  • Familiarity with postal regulations and procedures
  • Basic literacy to access postal systems
  • Ability to deescalate stressful situations a must
  • Minimum Experience / Education :

  • 1 year minimum of previous Postal Clerk experience, either at a post office of a contract station required
  • 1 to 3 years previous customer service experience required
  • Basic Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel computer skills
  • Clear, legible writing is a must
  • Previous Cashiering experience preferred
  • Physical Requirements :

  • Written Comprehension - Reading and understanding what is written.

  • This position typically requires significant amounts of standing and computer work including reaching, finger dexterity, and repetitive motions of the hands and wrists. Also requires reaching, stooping, bending, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, and feeling, talking, hearing, and seeing. Exerting up to 70 pounds occasionally and / or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

    Work Environment :

    Duties for this position are typically performed in an office environment with daily travel to the offices to deliver mail to tenants and Carillon Properties management office. Opportunities for flexible work arrangements may be available for this position.
