Legal Director, Payments & Financial Services Strategic Partnerships

We’re building a fintech platform in the making. With over $70 billion in GMV in 2024, we are investing in the infrastructure and partnerships to scale payments and financial services in innovative ways. This is a pivotal moment to shape our payments and financial services strategy for the next 30 years.

This is not a plug-and-play role. We need an experienced thought leader to drive strategic deals with some of the world’s largest fintech companies, card networks, and other financial players, and help shape payments integration strategies for our marketplace ecosystem and beyond. You will have a real seat at the table.

You’ll be the trusted co-pilot for our business development, product, and engineering teams as they forge new alliances. You’ll untangle complex legal knots and structure deals to support ambitious goals. You’ll be :

  • Juggler of Deals : From crafting partnerships with payment processors to launching new financial products, you’ll draft, negotiate, and advise on global agreements. Manage multiple high-stakes projects with a calm, strategic approach.
  • A Regulatory Whisperer : Navigate the evolving payments and financial services regulations, translate complex legal jargon into clear guidance, and help teams move fast and effectively.
  • The Go-To Problem-Solver : Provide practical, strategic counsel, propose creative solutions, and help build a more streamlined and efficient legal function.
  • Team Player Extraordinaire : Collaborate with a diverse group of stakeholders across the company and worldwide, from BizDev to engineering, united by a common goal : building the future of commerce.

What You'll Need to Bring to the Table

  • A J.D. from an accredited law school and an active license to practice law in at least one U.S. state.
  • 10+ years of legal experience with a focus on commercial and strategic transactions in payments or fintech, including payment networks, card issuers, credit providers, acquirers / processors, fintechs, and financial institutions.
  • A proven track record of handling high-stakes negotiations and advising on the legal complexities of financial services products.
  • Technical understanding of the payments and financial ecosystem, especially as it relates to merchants and marketplaces.
  • Familiarity with acquirers, card networks and their operating rules.
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment with comfort in ambiguity and a bias for action.
  • A great sense of humor and a collaborative attitude.
