About The Position

Job Title : Operating Room Surgical Technologist

Description :

Assists during surgical procedures by ensuring and maintaining the integrity of a sterile surgical field.

Provides instrumentation as needed to the surgical team.

Participates in unit activities that ensure high levels of quality related to patient care.

Functions under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

Essential Job Functions :

Possesses expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique.

Combines knowledge of human anatomy and surgical procedures with implementation of tools and technologies during invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.

Maintains and checks all items for proper packaging, processing, moisture, seal and packaging integrity, and expiration dates.

Ensures that the operating room environment is safe and that equipment functions properly.

Monitors sterile field for events that may contaminate or alter the field and initiates or notifies the need for corrective action under supervision.

Maintains flexibility while contributing to the individualized delivery of care within the scope of practice.

Models effective communication with the perioperative team, including participation in Time Out Process and briefings.

Assists the team in patient transports, room turnovers, and room preparation.

Models professional behavior and maintains currency in new technologies and procedures.

Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization.

Role models principles of a Just Culture.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Must be HIPAA compliant.
