Job description

Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Associate Dean of Student Success and Inclusion this position provides academic advising and related support services to current and prospective undergraduate students in the College of Architecture and Environmental Design. The incumbent works with a moderate degree of independence to provide holistic academic advising to undergraduate students including developing tailored academic plans; selecting courses concentrations and minors; referring to campus partners such as basic needs programs and Campus Health & Wellbeing; explaining campus policies and procedures; recommending strategies for academic success; guiding students through the change of major process; interpreting curriculum sheets and articulation agreements; and assisting with new student recruitment and orientation programming.

This is a full-time 12-month temporary position and is eligible for full benefits including medical dental vision and CalPERS retirement.

Department Summary

With approximately 2000 students and 145 faculty and staff Cal Polys College of Architecture and Environmental Design (CAED) offers eight degree programs in five closely related departments : Architectural Engineering Architecture City and Regional Planning Construction Management and Landscape Architecture. For decades the CAEDs nationally ranked accredited programs and over 16000 alumni have been a positive influence on forces that shape the planning design and construction worlds. The common educational goal shared by all academic programs within the CAED is excellence in preparing tomorrows built environment leaders. The CAEDs programs are distinguished by their selective admissions active incorporation of hands-on-learning experiences and their close instructional relationship to professions and industries as well as public agencies and community constituents.

Key Qualifications

  • Ability to work in an inclusive environment supporting students staff and faculty with diverse and intersecting identities in an equitable and culturally competent manner.
  • Ability to work effectively as a part of a diverse team and to involve others in problem solving.
  • Ability to be flexible in work assignments to best meet the needs of students and the needs of College of Architecture and Environmental Design advising team.
  • Excellent attention to detail and thoroughness.
  • Skilled at counseling or advising individuals and in groups on complex student related matters including students from historically underserved student populations first-generation college and Pell-eligible.

Education and Experience

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences public or business administration or a job-related field. Two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field.
  • A masters degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.
  • Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the required knowledge and abilities may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Salary and Benefits

    Anticipated Hiring Range : $60996 - $66612 per year

    Classification Range : $60996 - $86736 per year

    Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience skills knowledge abilities education licensure and certifications and other business and organizational needs. The Anticipated Hiring Range referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Classification Range may be broader than what the University anticipates paying for this position based on internal equity budget and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
