CHIEF OPERATING ENGINEER (1st Class) (CLASS CODE 2412)

City Of New Orleans Mechanical Engineer

Responsible supervisory work involving the operation, maintenance, and repair of a variety of heating, air-conditioning, refrigeration, and other mechanical equipment in a group of major government buildings or all facilities of a major city department.

Minimum Qualifications :

Original Entrance :

Three (3) years of full-time experience as a stationary engineer. Possession of the following licenses issued by the Board of Examiners of Operating Engineers of the City of New Orleans :

A) 1st Class Air Conditioning or Refrigeration License

B) 1st Class Boilers License

Promotional :

Permanent status with the City of New Orleans and three (3) years of experience as a maintenance engineer. Possession of the following licenses issued by the Board of Examiners of Operating Engineers of the City of New Orleans :

A) 1st Class Air Conditioning or Refrigeration License

B) 1st Class Boilers License

Note : Some positions may require the possession of a 1st Class Internal Combustion License or the acquisition of such a license before the probationary end date. No probationary period may last longer than one year. Experience in troubleshooting and servicing air conditioning units, including all types of control circuits, is preferred but not required.
