Chattanooga Zoo is seeking dedicated Habitat Design Technician to assist in building new exhibits, repairing and enhancing old exhibits, and create exhibit elements. this position will routinely work with master gardeners, individual volunteers, group volunteers & community service workers to maintain area compliance with USDA and AZA regulations and standards.
Essential Functions :
- Build new exhibits, repair and enhance old exhibits, and create exhibit elements.
- Assist other departments with creative design solutions and construction
- Research material for the construction of exhibits.
- Construct artificial exhibitry elements such as trees, vines, and rocks using a variety of materials such as concrete, fiberglass, epoxy, polyester and other resins, urethanes, plastic, wood and metals.
- Fabricates exhibit components such as display cases, interactive mechanical or electrical elements and models.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required1 year minimum paid experience in exhibit fabrication and / or maintenance is requiredKnowledge of zoo animal care and husbandry is preferred.Licensing & Certifications

Heavy : Exerting over 80 pounds of force occasionally and up to 50 pounds frequently.This position require standing, walking, climbing, bending, stooping and lifting / holding a majority of the time.This position routinely works with construction or maintenance machines and equipment such as hand tools, saws, drill, chain saw, paint brushes, wheelbarrows, cleaning equipment, lawn mowersThis position is routinely exposed to external elements which include heat / cold, wet / humid, dry / arid and extreme weather conditions.
