STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
The Support Services Supervisor provides daily leadership and operational oversight for JRMC's Environmental Services and Linen Services departments. This role ensures that staffing, workflows, and service standards consistently support a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for patients, families, and staff. The Supervisor is responsible for maintaining high-quality cleaning practices, effective linen processing and distribution, and operational excellence that upholds JRMC's commitment to exceptional patient care and organizational pride.
JOB FUNCTIONS
QUALITY
- Ensure high standards of cleanliness, safety, and environmental hygiene by developing and maintaining department cleaning checklists, monthly cleaning schedules, and special-project cleaning lists (e.g., ceiling lights, air vents).
- Train new and current employees on proper cleaning techniques, equipment usage, and best practices to ensure consistent, high-quality outcomes across all areas of the facility.
- Maintain proficiency in all Environmental Services and Linen Services work areas to provide seamless coverage when needed, ensuring uninterrupted service quality.
SERVICE
Coordinate and maintain the monthly staffing schedule to ensure consistent service coverage across all departments, balancing hired hours, vacation requests, and daily operational needs.Oversee proper linen processing, delivery, and distribution to support timely, efficient service throughout JRMC.Respond to operational needs and perform additional duties as requested to support overall departmental and organizational service excellence.PEOPLE
Lead onboarding and ongoing training efforts for all Environmental Services and Linen Services staff, fostering confidence, competence, and teamwork.Participate in the peer interview process to support strong hiring decisions.Contribute to annual employee performance reviews, offering feedback that supports staff development and accountability.Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating commitment to JRMC healthy roots, expectations, and a supportive team environment.FINANCE
Manage and order departmental supplies to ensure adequate inventory levels while promoting cost-effective utilization.Serve as a back-up for timecard approval to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing.GROWTH
Actively engage in process improvements within Environmental and Linen Services to enhance efficiency, workflow, and staff performance.Support the department's readiness for organizational changes, new equipment, and evolving best practices through continuous learning and adaptability.Participate in opportunities for professional development and contribute ideas that promote long-term departmental and organizational growth.Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION : (Environmental Services & Linen Services Supervisor)
PREPARATION AND TRAINING - A high school level of knowledge is preferred to ensure the ability to follow written and verbal instructions, perform basic calculations, and communicate effectively with others. The employee will obtain CHEST (Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Technician) certification within 6 months of hire and will achieve CHEST Trainer certification within 24 months of hire.WORK EXPERIENCE - Previous environmental services, linen services, and supervisory duties required.ATTENDANCE - Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility of each employee at JRMC. Employees are expected to report to work as scheduled, on time and prepared to start working. Employees are also expected to remain at work for their entire work schedule.ANALYTICAL ABILITY - Analysis involves the interpretation of data from multiple vendors. Will also analyze current cleaning practices and make recommendations / changes in conjunction with the Support Services manager.INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT - Work is performed independently. Employee must consult with Support Services Manager before implementing changes in cleaning schedules and techniques.CONTACTS WITH OTHERS - Frequent contact with staff from multiple departments.SUPERVISING THE WORK OF OTHERS - Usually works independent. Will supervise Environmental Services & Linen Services employees and in the absence of Support Services Manager will communicate with the CFO for any disciplinary issues.RESPONSIBILITY FOR WELFARE OF OTHERS - Carelessness could frequently result in moderate harm to patients, visitors and co-workers caused from wet floors, improper cleaning techniques, or improper laundering.MENTAL / VISUAL EFFORT - Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner. Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the major requirements of this position can be met. Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.WORKING CONDITIONS - Indoor work; good environment; hands are frequently in contact with water and cleaning solutions. May be requested to work on shifts other than the one scheduled to help cover for staff shortages. Is subject to falls from wet floors or reactions from dust and disinfectants. Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances. Participates in and complies with JRMC Safety Management Program. Maintains knowledge of and observes Standard Precautions. Practices sanitary technique when cleaning.
