The story
You’re the person people call for the big jobs—the veteran who can indicate a 70"+ swing part, make a plan for an awkward weldment, and hit spec on a vacuum‑chamber flange without flinching. If that’s you, step into a shop built for large‑part work : heavy envelope, serious horsepower, smart teammates, and cranes overhead so you can do what you do best—make big parts right, and make them proud.
Your arena (the machines you’ll run)
We’re a 50,000 sq ft facility with three bays, eight overhead cranes (10,000–20,000 lb; 23 ft under hook), forklifts up to 14,000 lb, and the iron to match. Typical platforms include :
VTLs : Olympia V80 (118" swing), Olympia V60 (70" swing), and Homma VTLs—live spindle / C‑axis, 24‑tool ATC, Fanuc controls [sources].HBMs & bridge / floor mills : Doosan DB130C HBMs (33,000‑lb tables), Toshiba BTD‑110.R16 (full 4th‑axis rotary; 4.3" spindle), Shibaura BP‑150.R22, and a Mitsubishi MVR30 5‑sided bridge mill (~55,000‑lb table) [sources].5‑axis / mill‑turn & horizontals / verticals : Hermle C62 5‑axis mill‑turn, Mori‑Seiki MH‑63 HMCs, VIPER 2100, plus Okuma / Matsuura / Trak where it fits the work [sources].Parts & materials you’ll see
Large castings, forgings, and weldments; vacuum / pressure‑vessel components; chamber hardware; one‑offs and production runs. Materials include stainless (316 / duplex), steels / alloys, aluminum, copper, nickel‑based alloys (Hastelloy / Haynes), and cast iron—often to tight tolerances with NIST‑traceable QC [sources].
What you’ll do
Own setups and first‑articles on VTLs, HBMs / bridge mills, and mills; plan workholding and sequencing for big / odd shapes.Run and edit at the control (Fanuc common here) : G‑code / M‑code, offsets, macros, C‑axis / live spindle, 4th / 5‑axis where relevant.Select tooling, set feeds / speeds across stainless, nickel alloys, steels, aluminum, copper, and cast iron; manage tool life and surface finish.Inspect as you go—mics (including large), bore gages, height gages, surface plates; collaborate with QC / CMM to release parts to spec.Rig and move large work safely (cranes, slings, spreader bars, protecteds); follow lift plans; support a clean, organized bay.Partner with programming / CAD‑CAM on manufacturability (we leverage 5‑axis and mill‑turn where it adds value). You’ll thrive here if you have
10+ years of CNC large‑part machining—hands‑on with VTLs and / or HBMs / bridge mills / mills (setups, first‑article ownership).Fanuc control fluency (18T / 18i / 16 / 11 series), strong G‑code reading / editing; comfortable with macros and multi‑axis cycles.Deep tooling knowledge (carbide / HSS / indexable, big boring heads, face mills) and practical feeds / speeds judgment.Proven skill indicating and fixturing large or odd‑shaped workpieces; safe, confident crane / forklift practices.Blueprint & GD&T literacy; disciplined in‑process inspection. CMM exposure a plus.Pride in quality and throughput; safety mindset; reliability; team orientation—and the humility to both teach and keep learning. Why you’ll want to join
