Job Information

The State of Tennessee is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to fill the position of Environmental Scientist 1 in the Department of Environment and Conservation, Air Pollution Control Division, located in Knoxville, TN.

Location : Knoxville, TN

Job Type : Full-Time

Salary : $4,017.00 - $5,028.00 per month ($48,204.00 - $60,336.00 per year)

Overview

Under immediate supervision, the Environmental Scientist 1 will be responsible for learning professional environmental, natural resources, sustainability, environmental assistance program, radiological health, and / or similar science-related program work of routine difficulty.

Responsibilities

  • Investigates complaints and develops corrective recommendations for identified problems.
  • Prepares documentation, such as permits, designs, and reports, to ensure Agency missions are met.
  • Conducts inspections of equipment, structures, and / or material to ensure proper installation, maintenance, and / or operation.
  • Provides technical expertise in handling events involving radiation and radioactive material.
  • Communicates findings and interpretations to stakeholders, including governmental agencies and the public.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in environmental science, physical sciences, ecology, sustainability, life sciences, environmental health, pre-medicine, engineering, or other acceptable science or natural resource-related field.
  • Possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license at the time of appointment in some positions.
  • Applicants for the TDEC Environmental Scientist 1 or Health Physicist 1 in the Division of Radiological Health must successfully complete the training courses offered by the Division of Radiological Health.
