SUMMARY

This position is responsible for preparing and teaching science courses and corresponding labs at Bates Technical College to a student population of primarily Technical High School and High School+ (Adult High School) students. This position reports directly to the Central Campus Dean of Instruction.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & OTHER DUTIES

Essential Functions:
  • Teach assigned Science courses and provide high quality instruction in a variety of delivery methods, including face to face, web-enhanced, hybrid, and online.
  • Adequately prepare all course materials and lessons for science courses primarily HSCI 099/HSCSC 86-Chemistry, HSCI 095/HSCSC 83-Heredity, HSCI 94/HSCSC 84-Physical Science, HSCI 093/HSCSC 81-Molecules to Organisms.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with a diverse population of colleagues and students.
  • Provide each student with clear course expectations, evaluations and timelines through carefully written topical outlines and approved standardized syllabi.
  • Support College student achievement practices, to ensure student retention, completion, and progression.
  • Provide interesting and relevant assignments for students that demonstrate learning outcomes in a real-life setting.
  • Respond to student questions on a timely basis.
  • Provide individual and small group instruction to students in both a classroom and lab setting.
  • Ensure that individual, lab, and small group instruction is based on best available education practices, meets standards for content, and is relevant to students' vocational career training at the college.
  • Maintain student and curriculum records i.e. student progress and attendance, instructional syllabi, course curriculum and plans, and grades.
  • Effectively use available technology resources to enhance student access to knowledge and information, and effectively use technology to deliver instructional content.
  • Develop and/or maintain industry-based program accreditation, and ensure students are prepared for and can obtain relevant industry credentials and certifications.
  • Deliver classroom management to maintain a suitable learning environment by responding appropriately to student conduct/problems and provide assistance in solving them in accordance with college procedures.
  • Provide budget management which includes requisition and maintenance control of and safeguard inventories of equipment and supplies assigned to the program.
  • Possess a working computer/laptop and reliable internet connections to conduct online components of the course.
Non-Essential/Other Functions:
  • Actively contribute to and participate in college-wide activities in support of regional accreditation and state and federal requirements.
  • Participate actively and collaboratively with College Student Services and program advisory committees to support access to employment opportunities for students, and maintain student job placement records.
  • Accountable for keeping personal development up-to-date; adding to skills and knowledge through courses that may be available through the Bates Technical College courses, professional development committees, etc.
  • Participate actively and collaboratively on committees for college as needed including but not limited to staff recruitment, college councils, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, or closely related field from an accredited college or university.
Allowable Substitution
If necessary, alternative combinations of education and experience may be evaluated by Human Resources for comparability.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience teaching at a community college and/or the freshman & sophomore levels along with working experience with the CANVAS learning management system.
