Job Description Summary / TWC Summary :
The Joan M. Lafleur College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at Texas Southern University is seeking qualified and experienced academic support specialist for the Biomedical Sciences program. Under the direction of the Department Chair and the Program Director, the academic support specialist will coordinate the daily activities for the biomedical science program by serving as a resource for the COPHS to provide academic support to the students and best practices for the biomedical sciences program.
Essential Duties Summary :
Mentoring Program Coordination :
- Collaborate with the Program Director to recruit, hire, and re-hire student mentees, including completing necessary employment forms and maintaining contact with faculty for peer mentor recommendations.
- Develop and implement effective workshops, and best practices, including techniques for tracking student progress and recordkeeping.
- Oversee and monitor mentoring activities, including maintaining schedules, assigning projects and community service events, and providing ongoing support to mentors and mentees.
Student Support and Academic Resources :
Coordinate day-to-day academic support activities, such as mentoring, instructional resources, and technology assistance.Guide students in the use of instructional technology and provide access to resources that empower them as active and engaged learners.Track and support students with 3060 credit hours and those identified as at-risk, ensuring their academic progress and success.Data Collection and Reporting :
Collect, organize, and maintain data related to student progression, retention, and mentoring program participation for Title III Grants and other reporting requirements.Prepare detailed reports on student and mentor hours, program outcomes, and expenditures, and provide regular updates to administrators.Event and Workshop Planning :
Design and conduct workshops and programming to support learning, enrichment, and student engagement.Assist in the planning and coordination of events and activities related to mentoring services and academic support.Resource Development and Communication :
Develop and maintain a listserv for BMSC students and gather campus-wide information on the availability of academic support services, including their locations and schedules.Prepare and update informational materials for the departments webpage and other communication channels to promote academic support services.Budget Monitoring and Inventory Management :
Monitor and track program expenditures and submit requisition requests as needed supplies.Maintain inventory of books, equipment, and supplies; check out materials to students and faculty; and report on equipment malfunctions or service needs.Internship and Professional Development Opportunities :
Identify and promote internship opportunities for students in collaboration with the Program Director.Encourage student involvement in activities that support learning and career readiness.Program Development and Innovation :
Participate in the development and implementation of new academic support programs and initiatives.Make recommendations for activities and services that enhance student learning and retention.Administrative and Miscellaneous Duties :
Assist in resolving administrative issues and provide support to the Program Director and other staff as needed.Perform other duties related to the primary responsibilities of the position.% FTE : 1.0
Hiring Range :
$45,486.69 - $57,995.53
