Financial Coach - IDPL (Career Pathways)

Founded in 1977 to help Latino’s learn basic skills, pass the civil service exam and obtain higher paying post office jobs, Instituto has grown to a flourishing educational center serving over 14,000 Chicago families per year.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Under the supervision of the Financial Coach and Outreach Specialist, the Financial Coach provides individualized financial coaching and group education to program participants. This role involves planning and delivering financial wellness workshops on topics such as budgeting, credit building and repair, savings strategies, banking, investments, homeownership, and overall financial planning and behavior change.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Deliver one-on-one and small group financial counseling on topics including budgeting, debt management, credit building, savings, investing, and homeownership.
- Conduct financial assessments and review documents to evaluate income, debt, assets, and credit scores necessary to provide informed financial counseling.
- Collaborate with program participants to develop personalized financial wellness plans, set clear goals and actions to achieve their goals and aspirations.
- Provide guidance on financial decision-making and behavior change to improve financial outcomes, including budgeting, debt management, retirement planning, and investing.
- Monitor participants’ progress and financial plans as needed.
- Offer emotional support to help clients overcome financial challenges and stay motivated.
- Conduct follow-up sessions to track financial goals and outcomes to reinforce progress.
- Maintain accurate, timely case notes and client records in Salesforce.
- Ensure client’s physical and electronic files are accurate, up to date, and secure.
- Track outcomes of services provided to prepare and deliver reports on a regular basis.
- Cultivate, manage, and expand relationships with clients, leaders, and financial institutions.
- Stay informed about financial products, tools, and regulatory changes.
- Facilitate bi-weekly Career Pathways orientations and support recruitment efforts.
- Promote services through outreach events and community engagement, occasionally outside normal business hours.
- Support fundraising efforts and participate in organizational initiatives as needed.
- Build and maintain relationships with clients, community leaders, and financial institutions.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
1-2 years of experience in financial coaching, advising, banking, real estate, or social services.Bilingual English / Spanish required.Solid understanding of personal finance concepts, including budgeting, saving, and investing.Familiarity with financial planning strategies and relevant industry regulations.Experience facilitating one-on-one and in small group sessions on financial and related topics.Ability to maintain a high sense of confidentiality.Able to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team.Exceptional organization and time management skills to tackle multiple projects at once.Outstanding customer service attitude.Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, and customer service skills.Strong phone etiquette and ability to maintain professionalism in high-pressure situations.Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and internet-based tools.The above job description is intended to describe the general conditions of and requirements for the performance of this job. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The nature of this work requires the ability to operate standard business office equipment. It also requires the ability to communicate and exchange information, collect, compile, and prepare work documents, as well as set-up and maintain work files.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The majority of the work performed for this job is in a general office environment. This position requires the availability to work for extended hours. Non-traditional hours may be required to perform this job duties. It also requires participation and attendance to organization sponsored events and meetings outside normal business hours.
