Position : Clinical Nurse Educator – Emergency Department

SMCH currently has one full‑time vacancy in the Emergency Department for a Clinical Nurse Educator. The educator will split 50% of time to direct patient care and 50% to indirect patient care as a nurse educator.

Responsibilities

Monitor and maintain competency and education records of all Critical Care staff and participate in hospital committees that directly influence nursing quality in the Emergency Department.

Actively contribute to the department organizational plan to ensure that this plan reflects state and national professional and health care trends as well as current standards of nursing practice and regulatory standards.

Accept direct patient care assignments in proportion to other responsibilities including orientation, onboarding of new staff, and staff evaluations.

Exercise clinical knowledge acquired from 2‑5 years of experience in a Critical Care setting.

Display assessment, evaluation, critical thinking and technical skills.

Exhibit strong communication and teaching skills from previous educational experience.

Qualifications

Registered Nurse with a California license.

Two to five years of experience in Critical Care nursing.

Expert knowledge of the electronic medical record and reporting for auditing and educational responsibilities.

Experience in adult education curriculum development, program evaluation, evidence‑based practice implementation, and continuing education program development.

Proficiency in BLS, ACLS, PALS, and CPI (within three months of hire).

Associate Degree in Nursing with two years’ clinical experience (or Baccalaureate Degree with one year of experience) or Master’s Degree in Nursing.

Licensure / Certification

California Registered Nurse license.

BLS certification.

ACLS certification.

PALS certification.

CPI certification within three months of hire.

Education and Experience

Associate Degree in Nursing with two years of clinical experience including one year in a specialty area.

Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or health‑related field with one year of clinical experience including six months in a specialty area.

Master’s Degree in Nursing.
