This exceptional opportunity is for a highly visible, influential leader who can inspire collective action, drive systemic change, and position The African American Leadership Forum (The Forum) as a trusted convener, advocate, and thought leader both locally and nationally.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the African American Leadership Forum will serve as the chief strategist and ambassador of the organization. The CEO is responsible for advancing systemic change while building a vibrant cross-sector network of leaders, institutions, and organizations dedicated to improving the lives of African Americans across the Twin Cities.
POSITION SUMMARY
The CEO will provide strategic direction, operational excellence, and bold leadership to The Forum. This role requires a dynamic leader with proven fundraising expertise, strong community relationships, and the ability to align programs, operations, and resources with strategic priorities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as the chief strategist and ambassador for The Forum, setting a compelling vision for the future.
- Cultivate and communicate a clear, bold direction that inspires staff, board members, community leaders, funders, and partners.
- Champion equity, systemic change, and culturally rooted leadership development across the Twin Cities and beyond.
- Build and sustain relationships with diverse stakeholders, including public officials, philanthropic partners, corporate leaders, and grassroots organizations.
Organizational Leadership & Management
Lead and inspire a high-performing team to achieve ambitious goals and outcomes.Ensure the alignment of programs, operations, and resources with The Forum’s mission and strategic plan.Build a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation, where staff feel valued and empowered.Oversee the recruitment, retention, and development of top talent across all levels of the organization.Develop and execute a sustainable, diversified fundraising strategy that includes individual giving, foundations, corporations, and government sources.Build strong relationships with funders to secure transformational investments for The Forum’s work.Fiscal Stewardship
Oversee the financial health and sustainability of The Forum, ensuring transparency and accountability in all financial matters.Develop and manage annual operating and capital budgets in collaboration with the Board Finance Committee.Ensure compliance with best practices in nonprofit financial management and annual independent audits.Implement strong internal controls and risk management strategies.Strategic Communications & Influence
Serve as the primary spokesperson and trusted voice for The Forum, representing the organization with media, community members, and strategic partners.Amplify The Forum’s mission through storytelling, advocacy, and thought leadership.Position The Forum as a leader in policy development, racial equity efforts, and systems change conversations locally and nationally.Ensure consistent, compelling communication across digital, print, and multimedia platformsKEY QUALIFICATIONS
At least 7–10 years of senior leadership experience, including leading an organization or major division with a budget of $2M+.Demonstrated success in fundraising and resource development at a transformational level.Strong track record of building and leading high-performing teams.Proven ability to engage effectively with media, policymakers, and funders.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Advanced degree (MBA, MPA, JD, or related field).Deep knowledge of Twin Cities philanthropic, civic, and community landscapes.Direct experience with African American organizations and initiatives.Expertise in racial equity, social justice, and systems change workkpCompanies believes in and is committed to practices that create real equity and pay parity for all, regardless of background or identity. The expected salary range for this role is competitive and based on both experience and internal equity, with a full range of $180,000 to $220,000.
