REPORTS TO : Director of Nursing Adult Medicine
FLSA : Non-Exempt
Purpose of Job
Provides selected aspects of nursing care to clinic patients and assistance to assigned medical provider.
Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrate excellent patient / client relations skills by greeting patients / clients and engaging them in a genuine, warm, and caring manner.
- Respond to requests for assistance from colleagues in a positive, helpful manner.
- Ensure sterilization equipment machine checks are completed on a monthly basis.
- Ensure needed supplies are ordered and stocked as needed.
- Utilize the nursing process and administer direct nursing care to patients in accordance with clinic policies, procedures, and standards under the Arizona State Nurse Practice Act and other regulatory agencies; act as a resource to coworkers.
- Under the direction of the registered nurse, collaborate with healthcare providers in assessing patient status and delivering direct patient care.
- Document procedures, medications, delivery of care, and pertinent information regarding nursing care rendered to the patient.
- Educate patients using materials and instruction regarding procedures, diagnostic tests, health promotion and disease prevention for patients and families.
- Obtain necessary data to deliver quality patient care from history, vitals, charts, interviews, observations, and physical assessment while ensuring patient safety and well-being.
- Comply with quality assurance, safety, infection control, and emergency procedures in line with clinic policy.
- Participate in personal growth and development of nursing through publications, seminars, workshops, conferences, and professional affiliations.
- Provide intravenous therapy when appropriate, maintaining aseptic / sterile conditions.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Description – Extended Duties
Knowledge of insurance medication formularies to assist health care providers and patients with refills and new prescription requests.Process prior authorizations for non-formulary medications, including documentation.Assist providers in determining formulary medications and completing necessary documentation.Understand Medicare, Medicaid, and Commercial insurance guidelines regarding diabetic testing supplies and approvals.Process diabetic testing supplies in accordance with insurance guidelines.Process refill requests for adult medicine patients, including verification of last refill, medication adherence, and dosage before provider review.Act as liaison between local, state, and out-of-state pharmacies to meet patient refill needs.Refill medications and order labs following standing orders.Assist providers with patient medication reconciliation.Monitor medications delivered to FHC and maintain VFC compliance and vaccine monitoring.Perform other duties as assigned.Supervision
Supervision Exercised : None, but will be available to medical assistants for questions or situations requiring licensed nursing skill.
Typical Physical Requirements
Requires full range of body motion; handling and lifting patients; manual and finger dexterity; eye-hand coordination.Requires standing and walking for extended periods.Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds.Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.Requires ability to work under stressful conditions or irregular hours.Requires exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice to give and evaluate patient care.Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care.Ability to operate medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.Knowledge of relevant clinical guidelines and procedures related to general nursing care and documentation.Seniority level
