Hours: Monday - Friday, 40 hours/week
Job Summary: The Fernbank Summer Camp Counselors lead all program instruction and supervision of campers, grades K-6. Counselors act as positive role models, encouraging them to grow and learn through indoor and outdoor educational activities. Counselors are enthusiastic and safety-conscious caregivers for each of their campers.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties: - Leads crafts, games, and learning activities for groups of campers
- Provides behavioral supervision and correction to campers as needed, bringing in senior staff as needed
- Provides camper supervision during pre and/or aftercare
- Communicates daily with camp parents as needed
- Records and reports any incidents during the camp day
- Prepares, sets up, breaks down camp spaces for daily activities
- Sets up and breaks down camp spaces at the beginning and end of the season
- Maintains high level of cleanliness in camp spaces
- Attends required counselor training including CPR/AED/First Aid training
- Acts respectfully and responsibly and serves as a good role model to campers
- Additional duties as need to ensure a smooth camp program
Preferred Experience: - Previous childcare and child education experience required
- Background in STEAM field or education
- Previous customer service experience
Skills and Attributes: - Must be available weekly between May 20th and July August 7 for full 10.5 weeks
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must pass a background check before hire
- Must enjoy working with children between the ages of 5 and 13
- Interest in education and STEAM fields
- Able to sit, stand, and walk for up to 9 hours per day
- Comfortable working daily in a consistently high-energy environment
- Flexibility and a willingness to help wherever needed
- Energetic and creative, with good problem-solving abilities
- Able to learn quickly and deliver information in front of an audience
