Job Description\n

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg Tele position requiring 2 years of surgical unit experience, BLS, ACLS, and NIH certifications.

\n \n Responsibilities\n

  • Work on a combined adult medical surgical and surgical stepdown unit
  • Patient population includes those post-surgery or trauma, with diagnoses like cellulitis, trauma injuries, cancers, and vascular conditions
  • Typical patient ratio is 1 : 6 for surgical / medicine inpatient cases
  • Handles a wide range of inpatient surgical procedures including cholecystectomy, appendectomy, hernia repair, and amputations
  • Uses specialized equipment such as wound vacs, chest tubes, NG tubes, JP and Hemovac drains
  • Required night shifts of 12 hours, with both 36 and 48 hour workweeks available
  • Weekend work required every other weekend
  • Floating required to similar units or affiliate hospitals as needed
  • Uses Epic for documentation, Pyxis for medication management, and SBAR for communication
  • No RTO allowed during the first week; up to 7 days RTO allowed after booking if not on a holiday
  • Responsibilities include managing surgical and trauma patients, wound and drain care, dysrhythmia management, and rapid response participation
  • Assignment may include working as part of a Storm Team or Hurricane Team in catastrophic events or disasters
  • Required to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
  • Scrub attire is all navy or navy bottoms with white tops
  • Unit orientation includes 2 days of hospital orientation and 24 hours of floor training
  • First-time travelers will be considered
  • Candidates must avoid more than 5 consecutive workdays or over 60 hours per week per fatigue policy
  • Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees must have at least a 12-month break before being eligible
  • Local candidates within 50 miles will be offered at a lower local rate
  • \n \n Requirements\n

  • Active NC or Compact RN license in hand by start date
  • Minimum of 2 years of surgical unit RN experience required
  • Certifications in BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS required
  • Experience in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, use of rapid response teams, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, surgical drains, airway management, isolation precautions, and wound care
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start
  • Preferred skills include titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips, as well as chest tube management
  • Submission of two manager or supervisor references from the past 12 months highly preferred
