Our campus is located at 1601 Maple Street, Carrollton, GA 30118.

Faculty and staff members are expected to be physically present on campus as needed to support the in-person educational experience and on-campus vitality at the University of West Georgia. Depending upon teaching assignments and student demand, this could include the Carrollton or Newnan campuses.

Job Summary

The Director of Townsend Center Operations provides leadership and strategic direction for the Operations and Production department that is tasked with the planning and execution of performances and events in the facility. The ideal candidate will bring operational acumen to the entire organization with a focus on event excellence, fiscal responsibility, safety and security advocacy, exceptional patron and artistic experiences, and creative contributions to organizational growth initiatives. This role is a member of the leadership team and responsible for the direction of the following areas : Security and Safety, Technical Services, Event Management, Production, Facilities, and strategic planning for the infrastructure of the facility. Assists Director with planning and operation of events and TCPA fund raiser. Assists Director with event scheduling, policy design, and administration. Processes billing functions, work orders, equipment research, and scheduling of technicians and consultants. Works directly with the Gala Committee and oversees the design and build of the sets throughout the building for the LIVEART fundraiser. Oversees all Life Safety Issues pertaining to Employees, Students, and Patrons within the facilities

Responsibilities

Operations Direction-

Oversees the preventative maintenance, repairs and replacement of general items throughout the facility and of all theatrical systems in the two theatres. Coordinates with facilities designers on improvements to the lobby, restrooms and support rooms. Insures scheduling of needed work and normal operations of the building. Designs improvements to the infrastructure of the theatrical systems based on new technology. Researches and obtains specs and quotes for specific theatrical equipment including lighting fixtures, dimmers and control boards , sound control boards, microphones, cable, and stands, efficient power and safety items for the facility.

Production and Technical Direction-

Coordinates and manages the actual theatres and all event setups and strike back to original settings within the facility. Designs and executes needed scenic painting needed for large scale fund raiser. Sets the two theatres and rehearsal rooms for academic use as well as artistic use. Continues to uphold the strategic imperatives for the campus.

Administrative Duties-

Assists Director with event scheduling, policy design, and administration. Processes billing functions, charge backs, estimates, work orders, equipment research, and scheduling of technicians and consultants. Also Pcard approver. Creates budget of individual event cost / profit ratio. Evaluates all artist rider packets for technical and preshow requirements. Ensures that all technical requirements are negotiated or met, renting items that are necessary. Insures all items are delivered to the facility and installed correctly. Coordinates with contract technicians and artists to insure a successful performance. Gives tours for educational and producing groups including Georgia Presenters, GAE, GAPTA. Directly supervises the Technical Production Manager, and supports the direction of all SA production teams. Provides oversight for all internal and external client needs in the areas of operations.

Lead Trainer-

Trains faculty, staff, TCPA student assistants, and program participants (both on campus and off-campus) in several areas including the following : Life safety, which includes rigging, catwalk, and stage safety, as well as usher training for audience health issues and weather related issues. Equipment operation, including light and sound boards, follow-spot operations, fly and weight rail systems, set build and movement safety. Production techniques and values, including artistic design, such as lighting angles for theatre, dance, and music, and live sound mixing for the same. Provides education and training for regional high school theatre teachers. Event Management - 10% Coordinates and manages events, both for UWG & rental organizations. During productions all student workers answer directly to Project Director. For standard events this includes light and sound board operators, back stage technicians, box office personnel, and ushers.

Safety Officer-

Oversees all Life Safety Issues pertaining to Employees, Students, and Patrons within the facilities. Works directly with Risk Management to keep facility and equipment within OSHA compliance. Currently building safety office. Insures all current sanitation and safety mandates are followed by all our staff and student workers for the safety and comfort of our patrons and artists.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

Bachelors Degree : Theatre, Music, Art, Audio, Production, Design, Management, Business Creative Design, or other relevant degree

Required Experience

5+ years Theatrical Production Experience. 3+ years Theatrical Equipment Repair.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Educational Qualifications

MFA in Technical Theatre or Design. Or Master in Arts Management and Business

Preferred Experience

40 hours certified training in OSHA life Safety 40 hrs. certified training in theatrical rigging. 1+ year or 2 semesters in CAD and drafting. Spatial awareness and skills in crowd management. IAVM Venue Management School Graduate. Electrical repairs for lighting system, audio, and stage lift. Able to diagnose problems with lighting systems. Rigging repairs for rigging system.

Proposed Salary

$78,000 - $92,000 Annually. Paid on a monthly basis.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

ABILITIES

The position must be able to lift 45 lbs., climb steep stairs, work from heights up to 75 feet, work in confined spaces with very limited egress, and work long shifts that include evenings, weekends, and some holidays. The position must be able to work on all theatrical equipment while in place, work in a body-harness, work from a personnel lift, and weld and torch metal. The position must be able to sign for the Director on POs, check requests, personnel forms, etc. if director is absent. The position may submit work orders for job requests to campus departments such as facilities, printing, post office, etc. The position works closely with the Patron Services Manager, and Director to plan student assistant and staff overtime budgets.

KNOWLEDGE

Works directly with the Gala Committee and oversees the design and build of the sets throughout the building for the LIVEART fundraiser. Oversees all Life Safety Issues pertaining to Employees, Students, and Patrons within the facilities. Works with facilities and contractors in regards to equipment inspections. Works directly with Risk Management to keep facility and equipment within OSHA compliance. Currently building safety officer. During productions students workers answer directly to TD not Director.
