Job Title
Under immediate supervision of the Public Works Supervisor, to perform construction and maintenance work on City Facilities, Parks and streets, roads, sidewalks, and perform related duties as required.
Essential Duties :
- Repairs and replaces asphalt and concrete.
- Removes failed asphalt.
- Performs concrete repair work.
- Spreads and levels base rock.
- Breaks and removes concrete.
- Drives and operates a skid steer, dump truck or other related equipment in transporting dirt, sand, debris, construction materials, road sweepings and other materials.
- Loads and unloads trucks alone or with assistance of an assigned helper.
- Operates hot box trailer and other related equipment.
- Performs hand cleaning, maintenance work and heavy manual labor.
- Rakes, cleans and waters park areas; cleans courts, walks paths and other paved areas; plants trees, shrubs and turf; weeds and cultivates shrubs and flower beds; trims, fertilizes, renovates and maintains turf and plant areas; regulates and adjusts automatic sprinkler and lighting controllers; grades and levels sand or dirt in play areas, game areas, ball diamonds and courts.
- Maintains interiors of City buildings including the cleaning of floors, furniture, walls, woodwork, windows, etc.; vacuums and shampoos rugs; sanitizes and services restrooms and other public facilities; disposes of trash.
- Performs non-technical work in construction, installation and repair of equipment and facilities; performs manual labor such as breaking concrete, loading trucks, picking up debris.
- Operates a variety of hand / power tools, walk-behind power equipment and small riding lawn mowers. May be assigned other staff to assist in completion of assignments.
- Paints curbs to prohibit or restrict parking.
- Lays out and paints channelized traffic lanes, parking lots and parking spaces.
- Measures and stripes traffic lane lines and edge lines.
- Removes unwanted lines or symbols on pavement with machines.
- Maintains an inventory of new incoming signs and materials.
- Installs delineators and guide markers.
- Stencils letters on streets.
- Makes and assembles street markers, stop signs, and other various traffic control devices.
- Replaces damaged signs, guard rails and barricades.
- Logs the crew's daily activities for the Public Works ticket records.

Minimum Qualification :
High School diploma or GED equivalentTraining and Experience : One year of experience in the performance of grounds or building maintenance and repair, general labor, or other related experience preferred.Licenses, Certificates or Special Requirements : Possession of a valid California Class "C" driver's license.Knowledge of : Common tools, equipment, materials, and methods used in groundskeeping, cleaning and maintenance; operation and maintenance of hand / power tools, walk-behind power equipment and small riding lawn mowers. Safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to the work.
Paint and paint equipment.Standard designs and uses of street markings and traffic signs.Practices commonly employed to direct traffic by means of street striping and marking.Operation and maintenance of street marking machines and equipment.Safety practices applicable to traffic marking work.Ability to : Make minor field repairs and adjustments to tools and equipment; safely perform a variety of routine grounds and building maintenance; follow oral and written instructions; interact courteously with the public and other City staff; prepare basic records and reports. Willingness to perform required manual tasks. Perform all aspects of traffic painting and marking makes, installs, and maintains all street and traffic control signs.
