DEFINITION
Perform a variety of accounting clerical duties involving financial record keeping and / or transactions including accounts receivable and accounts payable; respond to requests and inquiries; and perform related work as required.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
Under supervision to perform support duties for the Accounting staff. Incumbents report to and take directions from the Senior Accountant. Incumbents receive thorough instructions when tasks are initially assigned and after training are expected to perform duties without constant supervision. Work is reviewed periodically upon completion and while in progress. Incumbents are expected to refer most variations in work to their supervisor for instructions.
Examples of Duties
Post data to various ledgers, registers, journals, and logs according to established account classifications and procedures; write and post journal entries; perform monthly reconciliations; gather, tabulate, and proofread statistical or financial data; accept and / or verify collections, receipts, and other financial data; perform a variety of general clerical duties including maintaining files and records; operate basic business equipment and a personal computer utilizing Microsoft products and the City's financial system; and perform related work as required.

The Accounting Intern Extra Help Part-Time position is designed for a student to work approximately twenty (20) hours a week Monday through Friday with assigned work hours being flexible. When school is not in session the student will be scheduled to work approximately forty (40) hours a week Monday through Friday. Please specify your availability Monday through Friday with the number of hours you are available to work each day. It is important for you to list your availability for all five (5) days for when school is in session and also list availability for all five days when school is not in session.
