Sous Chef

Pasta Louise is looking for a Sous Chef to join the leadership team at our busy, full-service Italian spot in Park Slope, Brooklyn. The kitchen moves fast, the energy is high, and the food is simple, fresh, and made by hand. This is a great role for someone who’s as comfortable jumping on the line as they are leading a team.

What the Job Looks Like

At Pasta Louise, The Sous Chef is the right hand to the Executive Chef — a steady, positive presence who helps keep the kitchen running smoothly day in and day out. That means being hands-on in service, coaching cooks, and making sure everything coming out of the kitchen is consistent and dialed in.

You’ll also play a key role in the behind-the-scenes stuff that keeps the place humming : ordering, scheduling, keeping an eye on costs, making sure the walk-in’s in good shape, and generally helping the team stay organized and ready for anything.

A Day Might Include

  • Leading service, expediting, or hopping on a station to keep things moving.
  • Making sure the kitchen crew has what they need and setting a positive tone during busy shifts.
  • Talking through challenges with FOH managers and problem solving together.
  • Supporting menu development, testing dishes, and making sure every plate is consistent.
  • Keeping tabs on orders, invoices, deliveries, and food costs.
  • Checking inventory and making sure everything is stocked and fresh.
  • Helping build the weekly kitchen schedule and adjusting as needed.
  • Keeping the kitchen clean, organized, and ready for a health inspection at any moment.
  • Thinking ahead when big parties or special events are on the books.
  • Working as part of a tight-knit management team where communication and follow-through matter.

What We’re Looking For :

  • Several  years of leadership experience in a busy kitchen.
  • Ability to make schedules for the team
  • Manage relationships with vendors and place orders
  • Someone who’s just as comfortable jumping onto the  line as they are leading from the pass.
  • Calm under pressure, good communicator, solutions-oriented.
  • Knows their way around inventory, scheduling, and cost control.
  • A team player who leads with respect and positivity.
  • Spanish language skills and POS familiarity are a plus (but not required).
