Occupational Therapist They are responsible for assisting students to reduce or eliminate physical or motor skill impairments that interfere with the individual student’s ability to participate in their academic instruction.
Responsibilities Reporting to the Director of Special Service, the Occupational Therapist collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy through suggestions for the student’s daily activities.
Essential Duties Provides appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet individual students’ needs and reduce or eliminate existing physical or motor skill impairments.
Assists teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified impairments.
Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of physical or occupational therapy needs.
Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.
Prepares for provision of therapy services and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of the school principal.
Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, district policies, and administrative regulations.
Attends and participates in faculty meetings.
Assists in the selection of equipment and other materials as required for the student to participate in and benefit from the school’s educational program.
Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with others.
Possess the ability to effectively communicate, verbally, and in written form, with administrators, staff, and the community as needed.
