Provides educational and career counseling and case management services to ESOL students in grant-funded, non-credit workforce development programs. Supports student persistence and achievement of goals, and collaborates with instructors to provide weekly classroom workshops that support the development of students' career portfolios. Supports students with development of basic technology skills and troubleshooting, enabling participation in class. Proactively networks with and on behalf of students, finding opportunities aligned with students' interests, skillsets, and prior education and experience. Provides job placement and follow-up to meet contracted program enrollment, placement and retention goals.

The Career Development Counselor should be available at the time classes meet :

  • Daytime : Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays 9 : 30am - 12 : 00pm.
  • Evening : Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays 6 : 00pm - 8 : 30pm.
  • Team meetings on Friday afternoons, 3 : 30pm - 5 : 00pm.
  • Approaches students through an asset-focused lens, noticing the strengths they bring to the program and building on those strengths. Develops strong relationships, trust, and proactive communication with all students on case-load.
  • Works with participants to develop a career plan with pathways to future advancement.
  • Maintains consistent contact with participants to support their growth.
  • Provides one-on-one and group career assessment, development, planning, and career advising services to a diverse population.
  • Assists participants in writing resumes, cover letters, and career readiness portfolio.
  • Facilitates a wide variety of essential skills and employment-related training opportunities for participants, all of whom are adult English language learners.
  • Collaborates with ESOL instructors, other job placement / career development counselors, and program directors as part of a creative team, finding opportunities for further development and continuous improvement of programs.
  • Assists participants with job search and job applications to find suitable employment.
  • Stays current on available jobs in target industries, vacancies at employer partners, and employer partner expectations.
  • Advises participants as necessary to resolve issues which may be barriers to course completion and employment.
  • Collaborates with One-Stop Career Centers to promote career-related workshops.
  • Maintains accurate student records, including attendance, documentation of employment status at time of enrollment, case management notes, and documentation for new employment.
  • Maintains a database of participant demographic, progression, and employment information as required for status reporting. Provides all data required to complete reports to the grant funder.
  • Responsible for meeting or exceeding job placement goals as established by the grant funder.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Education, Human Resources, or closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel;
  • Good verbal and written communication skills;
  • Experienced team player with the ability to also work independently;
  • Knowledge of the basic work skills required by employers;
  • Understanding of the barriers faced by low income populations, immigrants and refugees, and adult language learners;
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body;
  • Ability to deliver services and instruction in online, hybrid, and in-person formats.

    Preferred Qualifications :

  • Two (2) years of experience and / or training involving career counseling, recruitment, or counseling;
  • Demonstrated outcomes in program recruitment and / or job placement, with a diverse population;
  • TESOL experience or certification;
  • Experience with internationally-trained immigrant professionals, and pathways for recredentialing and career development;
  • Bi-lingual preferred (Spanish, Haitian Creole, Arabic, Turkish, Vietnamese, Dari, Pashto, Ukrainian, Russian, or a language spoken by students preferred).
  • Part-Time, Non-Benefitted MCCC Unit Position :

    Hourly Rate : $35.31 / hour.

    Hours : 18.5 hours / week, 4 days / evenings.

    Funding : Grant.

    Anticipated Start Date : December, 2025.
