Job Description & Requirements Specialty : Med Surg Discipline : RN Start Date : 12 / 01 / 2025 Duration : 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift : 12 hours, nights Employment Type : Travel Job Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg Telemetry position in New York, requiring an active NY RN license and EPIC charting experience. Responsibilities Work in a Med / Surg Telemetry unit within a hospital setting Patient population includes acute respiratory failure, CHF, COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, sepsis, pulmonary fibrosis, and ILD Patient ratios are 6-7 : 1 at night (may stretch to 8-10 if staff calls out); day / evening ratios are 5 : 1 (can stretch to 6-7) Specialized procedures include management of Amiodarone drips and rapid response team activation Uses advanced equipment such as BIPAP, CPAP, high flow, chronic ventilators, trach, chest tubes, and high flow nasal cannula EPIC EMR experience is required Schedule is night shift (3x12 hours), every other weekend required Floating is required but only within scope of practice On-call required as needed Responsibilities include management of complex cardiac drips, external airway devices, and post-surgical drains Work with PCTs for vital signs, glucose checks, EKGs, and ADLs Phlebotomy team conducts all peripheral lab draws; nursing staff manages PICC and central lines Four-hour in-person orientation with educator plus required online modules before start Navy blue or white scrubs required First time travelers are accepted Return staff must have a one year gap before rehire eligibility Please keep requested time off close to one week Requirements Active NY RN license required for consideration Current BLS certification required At least 1 year of recent Med / Surg Telemetry experience Strong skills in dysrhythmia interpretation and management, IV insulin protocol, titration of insulin drips, feeding tube and central line management, and care of ventilated and trach patients Experience with blood product administration, hemodialysis management, and wound care EPIC charting experience is required No local candidates within 75 miles will be considered Benefits High Pay and Bonuses Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options 401(k) Plan Weekly Payroll Deposit Free Online CEUs Generous Housing Allowance Travel and Licensure Reimbursements Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-632150.
