In pursuit of a rewarding legal career that extends beyond the corporate world, the Air Force JAG Corps offers meaningful service from day one with diverse practice opportunities worldwide.
Qualifications
Service Commitment
You do not incur a service commitment until you accept a JAG assignment. The initial active-duty commitment is four years, starting on the day you depart for Officer Training School (OTS).
Prior Military Service
If you are selected for direct appointment and have prior active duty, National Guard, or Reserve service, you will receive credit by length of service for pay purposes. Prior commissioned service can also advance entry grade and date of rank, and all active-duty service is credited toward retirement.
How To Apply
Application Process
Selection boards are held in February, April, August, and November. Submit your materials online before the 10th of the respective month (January 10, March 10, July 10, October 10). Schedule a hiring interview with a Staff Judge Advocate (SJA) at an Air Force Base (AFB) through the application system. The interview must be completed on or before the first of the month of the board (February 1, April 1, August 1, or November 1).
After the interview, the SJA will forward your report and application to HQ USAF / JAX. Add materials only via the SJA after submission; additional materials will not be accepted after the board meets.
Recommendation Letters
Letters should attest to work ethic, duty performance, and leadership potential. Address them to "Selection Board Members" and upload them as part of your online application.
