The schedule requires working three 12-hour shifts from 7 PM to 7 : 30 AM. Every other weekend and holiday rotation is required. Typical staffing ratios on nights are 1 : 3 to 1 : 4 depending on unit needs. The nurse will be floating within the scope to meet facility needs. The unit specializes in caring for pre- and post-operative transplant patients, including kidney, liver, and kidney / pancreas. Additional patient populations include nephrology and urology patients. All nurses must become ACLS certified and proficient in peritoneal dialysis within the first six months of employment. Opportunities for ongoing transplant-specific education and specialty certification in various areas are encouraged. Travelers should be aware of assignments to emergency response teams during hurricane season, which runs from June through November each year. Candidates should ensure there is no planned time off that would prevent compliance with pre-start requirements.
