Job Opportunity : Lead Estimator
Location : Charleston, South Carolina
Salary : $120,000 - $150,000 per year, depending on experience
Our client, a prominent and rapidly growing commercial development and construction firm, is seeking an experienced Lead Estimator to join their team. This company, known for its excellence in delivering high-quality construction projects, is looking to strengthen its estimating department with an expert who will lead and mentor the current team.
As the Lead Estimator, you will play a key role in reviewing project plans, evaluating bids, and ensuring cost-effective solutions are identified for each project. Your leadership will be essential in ensuring that the company meets its project goals while maintaining profitability and productivity standards.
Key Responsibilities :
- Oversee and review project plans, specifications, bid documents, and other relevant project materials to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Evaluate projects for potential value engineering opportunities, factoring in job conditions, labor, and material requirements.
- Identify and resolve inconsistencies, conflicts, and other issues within the bid documents and project drawings.
- Develop strategies to maximize bidding advantages.
- Effectively manage your time and oversee the estimating department’s workflow to ensure high productivity.
- Maintain high-quality performance standards across all estimating functions.
- Review bid documents to define project scope and assess profitability.
- Proactively identify and resolve potential problems, providing solutions to ensure smooth project delivery.
- Prepare and manage Requests for Information (RFIs) to address any conflicts or issues.
- Oversee the solicitation and review of quotes from vendors and equipment suppliers, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
- Foster and maintain positive relationships with vendors to secure competitive pricing.
- Prepare bid documents, including scope letters, blue sheets, and evaluations, ensuring that project costs, labor rates, and productivity are accurately accounted for.
- Conduct regular estimating meetings to discuss bid progress, address obstacles, and ensure project deadlines are met.
- Perform job site visits when necessary to identify any field conditions that could affect construction, bids, or pre-construction designs.
- Communicate bid status updates to company leadership, project managers, clients, and other stakeholders.
- Maintain a positive, organized, and proactive approach to support the growth and profitability of the business.
- Work collaboratively with engineers, architects, general contractors, and internal team members to ensure project success.
- Represent the company’s interests, focusing on cost control and profitability throughout the bidding and construction process.
