Certification and License Requirements

Hawaii State Respiratory Therapy License — Mandatory before start of assignment

BLS (Basic Life Support) — Required

PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) — Required

ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) — Required

RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist)_ — Preferred

NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)_ — Preferred

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Respiratory Therapist to join Hilo Medical Center for a 15-week assignment starting November 15, 2025. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive respiratory care across adult, pediatric, and neonatal patient populations, ensuring optimal airway management and ventilator support.

This role involves managing ventilators, both invasive and non-invasive, consulting with physicians, and delivering all aspects of respiratory therapy. The therapist will utilize advanced equipment, including computerized charting systems, Pyxis medication management, PB 980, PB 840 Ventilators, V60, and Para Pac Transport Vent, among others.

Candidates must have proof of flu vaccination or an approved medical / religious exemption prior to contract start, with vaccinations administered during the employee health clearance appointment.

Key Responsibilities :

Provide continuous airway management and ventilation support

Operate and monitor ventilators for adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients

Collaborate with physicians on respiratory care plans

Perform CPR and emergency responses as needed

Document patient care accurately using computerized charting systems

Manage medications via Pyxis and ensure proper equipment functioning

Qualifications :

Minimum of 2 years of prior experience in respiratory therapy, caring for adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients

Current Hawaii State Respiratory Therapy License

Valid BLS, PALS, and ACLS certifications

Experience with ventilator management and respiratory procedures

Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Education & Experience :

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy or a related healthcare field

Prior clinical experience in acute care settings, preferably in hospital environments

Familiarity with advanced respiratory equipment and electronic health records
